Baba Siddique: Veteran Leader Baba Siddique leaves Congress to join NCP

Veteran Leader from the Congress party Baba Siddique on Feb 10 joined NCP in presence of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar .This came after he officially resigned from Congress putting an end to his 48 years of journey with the party. During his speech, he claimed that ‘perception politics’ was being done in Congress. Siddique, a former legislator from Bandra (west), is the second big face to quit the grand-old party before the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls. In January, Milind Deora exited from the party to join Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In a tweet, he announced, "I joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it has been a significant journey lasting 48 years. Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect."

Maharashtra: Big setback to Sharad Pawar; NCP symbol goes to Ajit Pawar faction

In a big setback to the faction led by Sharad Pawar, the Election Commission on February 06 settled the dispute in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in favour of the faction led by the petitioner Ajit Pawar. Celebration took over at Ajit Pawar Camp, as EC settled dispute in NCP. The poll panel has given the NCP name and symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar in a significant decision that has a bearing on the forthcoming polls. The decision was taken after more than 10 hearings spread over more than six months. Maharashtra Dy CM and petitioner Ajit Pawar welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to EC for the decision. Meanwhile, NCP Sharad Pawar Faction leader Supriya Sule alleged an “Adrishya Shakti” behind the EC’s decision. Shiva Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi called the development “Sponsored, planned and executed by Central Govt”. Notably, test of majority in legislative wing found favour in the circumstance of the case, where both groups have been found to be working outside party constitution and organizational elections.

Ajit Pawar unfurls party flag, shows strength with 35 MLAs

Maharashtra's new Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reached the MET Institute of Management in Bandra on Wednesday for the party meeting convened for the leaders of his faction. Pawar was welcomed by a huge number of supporters on his arrival. On the number of MLAs joining Ajit Pawar, NCP leader Praful Patel, said "We have everyone with us. There is no need to worry". NCP leader Chhhagan Bhujbal also talked to the media about the number of MLAs attending the meet. Ajit Pawar along with other party leaders unfurled the NCP flag at MET Bandra. The NCP leaders and workers were seen wearing caps and saluting the party flag showcasing their respect for the party. According to reports, 35 to 43 MLAs are expected to reach MET Bandra to show their support to the Ajit Pawar faction. Ajit Pawar moved Election Commission to stake claim on Nationalist Congress Party's name and symbol, stated reports.  Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar and the group have filed a caveat saying that no decision should be taken in regards with the matter without consulting his faction. NCP leaders ANil Deshmukh, Supriya Sule were also seen at YB Chavan centre where Sharad Pawar's faction is also holding a meet.
