With an almost entirely plant-based menu of smoothies, salads and more, this new suburban food delivery service helps to ease festive binge guilt trips

Over the years, we have come to realise that one of the most effective ways to soften the blow of overindulging during any festive season is to bookend the weeks of indiscriminate gourmandising with healthy-eating. A few days, both before and after the upcoming fortnight-long celebrations, can do the trick!

And so, we pre-emptively turned to the aptly named Green Therapy Co, a Kandivali-based all-vegetarian and vegan food delivery kitchen, to ease our prospective guilt. With a large menu dotted with healthy bowls, smoothies, sandwiches and salads, choosing an interesting cross-section of the offerings prove to be our singular challenge here.

Arriving at our mid-town home promptly at the designated hour, the largish lunch order came neatly packed in biodegradable containers, glass bottles and paper boxes. Expecting it to have a soggy bottom, the Greek avo toast (Rs 550) travelled excellently, retaining a still-crisp multigrain base. Sitting atop was a delectable spread of avocado, feta cheese, olive tapenade, cherry tomatoes and chopped walnuts for some textural heft.

The trending South American fruit found itself once again in our avocolada smoothie (Rs 375), a clever riff on a pina colada made from avocado pulp, coconut milk and pineapple. From the other vegan picks, the couscous and kale salad (Rs 325) with its chickpea and iceberg lettuce side acts, along with a tangy vinaigrette dressing was crisp, wholesome and generously portioned.

Eschewing gluten, we dug into the soba noodle, broccoli and eggplant bowl (Rs 650) that came with a tasty peanut-miso sauce. The sauce evenly coats every strand of the Japanese buckwheat noodle. Still channelling both Japan and veganism, the Japanese matcha bowl (Rs 500) with its banana, mango and spinach base, all topped with granola, chia and pumpkin seeds, was another winner.

Stuffed with truffle cream cheese, caramelised onions and mushrooms, the very filling focaccia sandwich (Rs 375) was a celebration of umami goodness. Likewise, the twisted Italian bowl (Rs 750) with cauliflower rice, grilled melanzane (eggplant), pesto basilico and unctuous burrata cheese was satisfying.

While it might have piqued our curiosity on the menu, the acai berry blast smoothie (Rs 400), although tasty, stinted on its promise of an “acai blast” with the distinct taste of the slightly oily Brazilian super berry overshadowed by its strawberry, raspberry and banana parts whipped up with a coconut milk base.
