Swift, trained by Pesi Shroff and ridden by rookie rider N Bhosale, produced a stunning gallop in the final 300m of the J E Hughes Trophy, to post a sensational victory in the feature event on Sunday. Old horse Gazino (S Zervan up) finished an eye-catching runner up.

Earlier in the day, Shroff had also led in another winner when the three-year-old colt Sea The Sun, who was still fishing for his first win despite half a dozen attempts, finally lived up to his bloodlines, pulverizing class IV opposition over the nine-furlong trip of the Bushtops Plate in the hands of jockey PS Chouhan.

Trainer Dallas Todywalla's It's My Time (Akshay Kumar up), who received overwhelming support to close at even-money, justified the public's confidence, as he swooped on the runaway leader Arcana in the final furlong of the P Hadow Trophy to oblige his backers.

The father-son pair of trainer Malesh Narredu and jockey Yash  Narredu successfully landed a sweet gamble in the opening race on the card when Adamas, freshened from a run last week, won the lower division of the Ismail Khan Plate in a start-to-finish manner. Alpine Star (Mustakim Alam up) won the other division of the same race for trainer Narendra Lagad.

Jockey Nikhil Parmar excelled in the saddle when riding Miss American Pie, a three-year-old filly saddled by veteran trainer MK Jadhav. The first-timer actually had lost all her chances at the gates in the Classic Talk Plate (1,000m) with a less-than-perfect start, and was also running a bit green turning for home, but Nikhil drove her through a narrow gap between horses, and the game filly soon assumed command to win decisively. Like Shroff, trainer Jadhav also finished the day with a double when jockey PP Dhebe sneaked in his 6-to-1 Pure along the inner rails to steal the verdict from Northern Singer and Commandment.
