Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, admits to being exhausted after working as a reporter for the NBC channel during the recent 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi
Russian tennis beauty Maria Sharapova on Wednesday revealed that her role as correspondent for TV broadcaster NBC at the recent Sochi Winter Olympics was a lot tougher than even playing a three-setter at a Grand Slam.

Speaking at the pre-tournament round-table media interaction at Indian Wells, four-time Grand Slam-winner Sharapova, who was Russia’s face at the Games as Sochi is her hometown, said her two-week job as a reporter was exhausting.

“It was really exhausting. I don’t know what the next level of tired is. In tennis, you train, you eat right, you sleep right. I was not sleeping. I was eating terribly, drinking caffeine all the time,” said Sharapova, who cherished every moment of the experience nevertheless.
Moment of pride
She was chosen as the first of six Russian athletes to carry the Sochi Games torch and the 26-year-old glam doll said it was a huge honour to do so. “It was a moment of great pride… it was the biggest honor for me to carry the Winter Olympics torch. It was really neat with my parents and grandparents watching me,” she said.
Perfect break
Finally, the London Olympics’ silver medalist said that the break from training to attend the Sochi Games has kept her in good stead for the rest of the season. “From the time I started training to the Australian Open and Paris, it was a few months on the court. So it was great to have a little bit of a break (in Sochi) and then start again. I love this period of time with Indian Wells and Miami. I’ve been quite successful with it in the past and obviously a great memory here last year. So it’s nice to be back,” said the Indian Wells defending champion.
