Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday directed the health department to bring most of its services online and make them available through the official "Aaple Sarkar" portal with a view to improving transparency, accessibility, and efficiency.

Chairing a review meeting of the department at the state legislature complex, where the monsoon session is going on currently, Fadnavis noted secretaries must prepare time-bound action plans for ongoing and proposed urban healthcare projects to ensure their timely execution.

The CM emphasised the need to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure across both rural and urban areas.

He said 398 primary health centres (PHCs) and 2,806 sub-centres will be modernised with an expected cost of Rs 5,983 crore, which will be released in phases, and called for careful utilisation of central, state, and institutional funding.

Fadnavis asked the department to expedite the formation of a new Infrastructure Development Corporation for the health sector.

"Enhance artificial intelligence integration in healthcare services and simplify the procurement process for medicines and equipment. Build the capacity of health staff through innovative training initiatives," he advised.

The CM called for real-time data availability of hospitals covered under both the Ayushman Bharat - PMJAY (of the Centre) and the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (of the Maharashtra government) to streamline services for patients.

"An updated and citizen-friendly website must be developed so that the public is able to easily access information about all health schemes," Fadnavis said.

The Chief Minister proposed the creation of a separate recruitment board for health department vacancies and stressed the need for decentralisation of services to improve delivery quality.

"This will enable reliable and simultaneous access to information, making healthcare services more accessible for patients and the department alike. The department's website should also be updated to ensure that citizens can easily access information about all health schemes. A comprehensive draft of the state health policy should be prepared. Establishing a board for recruitment in the health department and decentralising healthcare services to provide high-quality care to patients should be among the department’s top priorities," he added.

Public Health Secretary Dr Nipun Vinayak and Secretary Virendra Singh gave a presentation on departmental work. Dr. Vinayak presented facts and the changed situation regarding the bond policy.
