Veer, Anaya emerge MSSA under-14 tennis champions

Veer Mahajan of Jamnabai Narsee International School (Juhu) and Anaya Goyal of Hill Spring International School (Tardeo) clinched the boys’ and girls’ under-14 singles titles respectively in the MSSA inter-school tennis tournament at Bombay Gymkhana on Saturday.


Veer encountered a stiff challenge from Dhairya Vimal of Hiranandani Foundation School (Powai), but managed to carve out a 4-2 victory in the best-of-seven-games final. Medhansh Khandelwal of Campion School (Cooperage) claimed the bronze medal, scraping past Aditya Arun of Podar International School (Powai) 3-2 in a hard-fought third-place match. 


In contrast, the girls’ U-14 final was a one-sided affair as Anaya was dominant from the start against Hrisha Shah of Lilavatibai Podar High School (Santacruz) and smoothly sailed to a 4-0 victory. In the bronze medal match, Neha Kelkar of Balmohan Vidya Mandir (Dadar) did not have to get on the court as her opponent, Rheea Goyal of Hill Spring, was unwell and did not report for the match.

Kreshiv Sharma of Smt RSB Arya Vidya Mandir (Juhu) and Chahat Thakur of Hansraj Morarji (Andheri) won the boys’ and girls’ U-10 titles respectively.Kreshiv defeated Aadvik Khanna of Dhirubhai Ambani (Bandra) 3-1 in the best-of-five games final to win gold. The girls’ final was a closely fought affair. Chahat won a tight tie-breaker 7-5 against Leah Kothari of Cathedral and John Connon (Fort) to snatch a 3-2 victory for the gold medal.
