BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly not sweating over the poor run of scores by India stalwarts at IPL-15 ahead of T20 World Cup in Australia later this year; insists duo will be in top shape for mega event

BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly seemed unfazed about the IPL form of former India skipper Virat Kohli and current skipper Rohit Sharma ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia later in the year (October-November).

Rohit has not been at his burgeoning best for Mumbai Indians who are enduring a highly forgettable IPL-15. Kohli has made more news for his three golden ducks in the tournament rather than big runs.

‘World Cup is far away’

Ganguly backed the two superstars of Indian cricket and said, “I’m not worried at all about the form of Rohit or Virat. They are too good…real big players. The World Cup is far away and I am quite confident that they will be in top shape much before the tournament.”

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Kohli are averaging a meagre 18.16 and 19.66 respectively this IPL season.

Since its inception, IPL has been a platform for young cricketers to showcase their skills and to adapt to competitive atmosphere.

Dominance of bowlers

This season has also seen a rise in many young talents, predominantly on the bowling front. Ganguly is impressed. “I’m very happy to see the dominance of the bowlers. The wickets in Mumbai and Pune are very good and they are extracting good bounce. The spinners are bowling well besides the speed merchants,” he said.

Umran Malik impressive

Ganguly is particularly impressed with Umran Malik and his tearaway pace. “How many can bowl at 150 km? Not many. I won’t be surprised if he gets picked for the national team. We have to be careful in using him, though. Umran is the fastest. I also like Kuldip Sen. Also, T Natarajan has made comeback. We will have Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Finally, it is up to the selectors,” said Ganguly.
