Hyderabad: Former Test cricketer and legendary batsman VVS Laxman's childhood coach MV Narasimha Rao lost his prestigious medal, which was awarded to him by Britain's Queen Elizabeth in 2011 for his work in setting up cricketing structure in Ireland.
Rao, under whose leadership Hyderabad won their only Ranji Trophy title by beating Delhi during the 1986-87 season, had been to a function with the medal, but after returning home, he found it missing from the bag.
"I went to a college function as chief guest. The medal was showcased there, but I don't know how the medal (left) got misplaced," the 62-year-old Rao told mid-day yesterday.
Rao, who played two Tests as an all-rounder from 1978 to 1979, went to Britain after cricket retirement where he did a lot of charity and anti-racism work apart from his cricketing contribution to the nation.

"It's as good as a Padma Shri for me and receiving it from the Queen makes it more prestigious.
"They gave it to me for my contribution in setting up cricketing structure in Ireland. I appeal to everyone, whoever gets any news of this medal, please inform me," said Rao, who is now the Director at Hyderabad Cricket Association's Academy of Excellence.
