A source told mid-day: "We have just been conveyed by Star Sports officials that the deal is now not happening."
The MCA had called an urgent Managing Committee meeting on Monday to approve the sponsorship deal, but some members raised objection that Rs 1.5 crore is "too less".
Some members also felt that the MCA should have taken the consent of Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) and University who organise inter-school cricket and inter-university cricket respectively before proposing sponsorship for them. The MCA had also proposed to give Star Sports broadcast rights for the Mumbai Premier League - a T20 tournament which is in the pipeline.
The members were of the opinion that the proposal requires fine-tuning and the MCA officials were planning to hold a meeting with the TV channel in a few days.
