Jammu locals react as Chenab riverbed dries after India halts flow to Pakistan

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, as India cracks down on the water flow to Pakistan, parts of Chenab riverbed have dried up in Jammu’s Akhnoor following the Chenab river flow cut to Pakistan. The marked decline in water levels follows the closure of gates at the Baglihar and Salal dams — a move seen as India asserting its rights under the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty. A local Kalyan Singh, said "Earlier, the Chenab River used to flow at a height of 25-30 feet, but now there is hardly 1.5-2 feet of water left here. This is because of PM Modi's decision to put the Indus Waters Treaty on hold...We do not want even a single drop of water to be supplied to Pakistan. We are all standing with the Indian Army and PM Modi..."

India-Iran 75th anniversary: Foreign ministers share warm messages of friendship

India-Iran 75th anniversary: Foreign ministers share warm messages of friendship

On the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister shared a special message to India, which was warmly reciprocated by India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar. This exchange of friendly gestures highlights the growing importance of the India-Iran relationship in the current global geopolitical landscape. Despite tensions between Israel and Iran, with the United States supporting Israel, India has remained steadfast in its historical ties with Iran, advocating for peace in the region. The longstanding relationship between the two countries is built on mutual respect and cooperation, which has only strengthened over time. Since India and Iran signed a formal 'Friendship Treaty' on March 15, 1950, their ties have deepened, with key agreements like the Tehran and New Delhi Declarations in 2001 and 2003. One of the most significant partnerships is India's involvement in the development of Chabahar Port in Iran. The Chabahar Agreement, signed in May 2016 by India, Iran, and Afghanistan, established a vital International Transport and Transit Corridor, further enhancing India's presence in the Middle East. Iranian Ambassador Iraj Elahi, in a February statement, called Chabahar Port the "golden gateway" for regional connectivity, emphasizing its importance in strengthening India-Iran ties. India has already provided around 24 million US dollars in port equipment for Chabahar, with more to come. Iran also plays a crucial role in multilateral organizations like the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), highlighting its commitment to regional cooperation on economic and security matters.

Rijiju criticizes Congress for opposing the One Nation, One Election Bill

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the opposition, particularly the Congress party, for playing a negative role regarding the One Nation, One Election Bill. He emphasized that this issue is important for the entire country, not just for any party or individual. Rijiju pointed out that India had One Nation, One Election for two decades after independence, and it was only after Congress misused Article 356 that elections became separated between Parliament and states. He questioned whether Congress believed that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s government was illegal because it followed One Nation, One Election. Rijiju argued that frequent elections are not beneficial and that elections should be held to serve the people and the country.
