Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has filed his nomination to contest from the Baramati assembly seat. This election will see him facing off against his nephew, Yugendra Pawar, who is the grandson of Sharad Pawar. Yugendra is running as a candidate for the NCP-SP alliance. This matchup marks another Pawar versus Pawar contest, following a recent election where Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar's daughter, defeated Sunetra Pawar, Ajit Pawar's wife. Ajit Pawar split from the NCP in June 2023. When asked about competing against his uncle, Yugendra expressed his sadness and said it was quite unfortunate to be in this situation, as Ajit Pawar has previously won this seat seven times.

Maharashtra Assembly Polls 2024: BJP's family power play sparks outrage

The BJP is making moves to solve a deadlock over sharing seats for the upcoming elections, leading to some important changes in political alliances. Recently, a former BJP minister joined Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and another is set to become an official candidate for the Shiv Sena (Shinde) this Wednesday, 23rd October. In Sindhudurg district, Nilesh Rane, son of well-known BJP leader Narayan Rane and a former MP, will run as the Shinde Sena’s candidate in Kudal. His official entry into the Sena is expected soon. This is a key moment for the Rane family, as Narayan lost the Kudal seat in 2014 when he ran as a Congress candidate. Now, both of his sons are competing in the elections, with Nitesh Rane already serving as a sitting MLA. This strategy could strengthen their influence in the region. Watch video for more

Maharashtra Assembly: Congress okays 96 candidates, resumes talks with allies

In recent developments regarding the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Congress party has announced its decision on 96 Assembly seats as of October 21. However, unlike other parties, they have not yet released a list of candidates. The Congress plans to discuss seat-sharing with allies Sharad Pawar of the NCP-SP and Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena UBT again on Tuesday October 22. Tensions arose when reports surfaced that the Shiv Sena UBT might leave the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition. Allegations suggested that Sena leader Sanjay Raut had met with Union Minister Amit Shah to discuss this. Both Raut and Congress state president Nana Patole have dismissed these claims as mere rumors, attributing them to misinformation spread by the BJP. Patole, who was in New Delhi to negotiate with party leaders, expressed hope that discussions would conclude soon.

Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: Political leaders speak out on seat-sharing

The political scene in Maharashtra is steaming up as parties are in the process of declaring their candidate list. Given the political arrangements of a coalition between the parties, the battle is intensifying as parties are battling it out to balance their own interests with those of the allies in the Maharashtra Assembly election 2024 . Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on seat-sharing said, "We will declare the first list tomorrow...More than Maha Vikas Aghadi, there are differences in Mahayuti...The issues on 30-40 seats will be resolved”. Congress leader Nitin Raut said, "Such a situation has always built up with all the alliances that have been formed in the country till this day. It is important to understand that. Every party wants that they should get their rights.” Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said, "...We have been in politics for years, every party feels that their workers should be made candidates...But this is an alliance. Everyone has the right to speak about their role but when it comes to seat sharing, everyone has to make a few sacrifices and take a step back." On tussle over seat-sharing in Maha Vikas Aghadi, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena leader Dr Raju Waghmare says, "There is a lot of fight between Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT). Shiv Sena (UBT) thinks they can win more seats and they are even ready to take the seats of alliance partners of Congress and NCP (SCP). Shiv Sena (UBT) is acting in a very arrogant manner...People of Maharashtra are considering us the real Shiv Sena...There is no sympathy base for Shiv Sena (UBT)...Congress has realised this as on the ground Shiv Sena (UBT) is nowhere. So Congress is adamant on its seats..."

Maharashtra Assembly Polls 2024: Major rift in MVA alliance ahead of the polls?

Maharashtra Assembly Polls 2024: Major rift in MVA alliance ahead of the polls?

Tensions are growing in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra. Congress state president Nana Patole recently ignored concerns raised by Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut during a press conference. This disagreement highlights the increasing strain within the alliance, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP. With Maharashtra assembly elections approaching, these conflicts could lead to serious challenges for the coalition. Patole's refusal to engage with Raut’s issues suggests a lack of unity, raising questions about the future of the MVA. As the elections draw near, how the coalition addresses these internal issues could be crucial for their success. This situation indicates that the alliance may not be as strong as it once seemed.
