Israel unleashes brutal airstrikes on Gaza, 100 killed amid ceasefire collapse

Explosions rocked Gaza City in the early hours of Tuesday, March 18, as Israel's military launched airstrikes targeting Hamas positions. Bright flashes lit up the night sky, according to footage obtained by Reuters. Palestinian officials reported that at least 15 people were killed in the attacks, with Israel carrying out more than 35 airstrikes across the area. Medics at Nasser Hospital in Gaza’s Khan Younis confirmed that the airstrikes were the deadliest since the ceasefire on January 19, with over 30 deaths reported. In total, Palestinian health officials stated that at least 100 people had died in the recent strikes. Ambulances raced through the streets as emergency services responded to the damage. Hamas accused Israel of breaking the ceasefire agreement, while Israel's military provided no details but stated that the operations were part of a broader strategy against Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the military had been ordered to take "strong action" against Hamas. The attacks, which involved more than just airstrikes, marked a major escalation following weeks of failed ceasefire talks. The fate of 59 hostages held in Gaza remains uncertain, as the violence continues.

Iran's Khamenei rejects Trump’s nuclear deal offer, Calls US a 'bully'

Iran's Khamenei rejects Trump’s nuclear deal offer, Calls US a 'bully'

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran grew after Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal, which had limited Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Trump said the deal was flawed and reimposed strict sanctions under a "maximum pressure" policy to force Iran into a new agreement. Iran saw this as bullying and rejected Trump’s offer for talks, with Supreme Leader Khamenei accusing the U.S. of seeking control, not solutions. In response to U.S. pressure, Iran expanded its nuclear activities beyond the deal’s limits. This deepened mistrust and led to more conflicts, including attacks in the region. Despite Trump’s openness to talks, U.S.-Iran relations remained tense, with little progress toward peace.

On February 26, former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment upon hearing about the discovery of the bodies of four Israeli hostages. These hostages were reportedly killed during the conflict in Gaza. Trump’s reaction came in response to a question about the ongoing situation and efforts to address the hostages' plight. When further questioned about the progress of the second phase of the Gaza peace deal, Trump responded by emphasizing that Israel should take the lead in the situation. He stated that any actions related to resolving the ongoing conflict and the hostages' fate should be determined and executed by Israel itself. His comment underlined his belief that Israel, as the directly affected nation, should drive the efforts to address the issue.

Israeli forces release Palestinian prisoners in Ramallah following Truce deal

A group of released Palestinian prisoners were met with cheers in Ramallah on Thursday (February 27), following an overnight exchange marking the final swap as part of a fragile truce in Gaza. Hamas handed over the bodies of four Israeli hostages while it waited for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel in return. Earlier, a bus carrying some of the freed prisoners was seen leaving Israel's Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank. The group got off the bus to cheers from hundreds congregated outside, with some of the released men - clad in green jackets and keffiyehs - hoisted aloft by the crowd. The first phase of the ceasefire included the exchange of 33 Israeli hostages in total for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from some positions in Gaza as well as an influx of aid.
