Walkie-Talkie blasts in Hezbollah after deadly pager explosions, 14 dead

Walkie-Talkie blasts in Hezbollah after deadly pager explosions, 14 dead

On September 18, hand-held radios used by Hezbollah exploded across southern Lebanon and in Beirut's suburbs, increasing tensions with Israel. Lebanon's health ministry reported that 14 people were killed and around 450 were injured. The death toll from explosions the previous day rose to 12, including two children. After the explosions, Hezbollah briefly struggled to regroup but claimed it had attacked Israeli artillery positions with rockets. The Israeli military reported sirens in northern Israel but noted no damage or injuries. A senior Lebanese security source revealed that Israel's Mossad agency had planted explosives in the pagers months earlier. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, called for an independent investigation into the explosions. Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate against Israel, which has been engaged in ongoing cross-border conflict since the Gaza conflict escalated. They warned Israel to expect a response to the "massacre" caused by the pager explosions.

Lebanon has experienced a series of explosions that have killed at least eight people and injured about 2,750 others. The blasts, which occurred on September 17, were caused by exploding handheld pagers. Health Minister Firass Abiad reported that around 200 people are in critical condition and that victims are being treated in over 150 hospitals across the country. Reports indicate that around 1,000 Hezbollah members were hurt in these explosions, with some injuries also reported among Hezbollah figures in Syria. Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was also injured. Social media is filled with videos showing the explosions and the chaos that followed in hospitals. Some unverified reports from Arab media suggest that these blasts might have been the result of an Israeli cyber attack, but the Israeli military has not made any official comments regarding the situation. The situation in Lebanon remains tense, as the country deals with the aftermath of this tragic event.

The plan to kill him during a funeral was canceled due to the large crowd, so the agents planted explosives in three rooms instead. If true, this would be a significant security breach for Iran. However, the Israeli Defense Forces deny involvement in attacks around that time, except for a separate killing in Beirut. Earlier, The New York Times reported that Haniyeh was killed by a remote-controlled bomb that was smuggled in two months prior.
