They would have gotten away with murder, if it weren't for quick thinking on cops' part. On Saturday night, three persons approached the Kumarswamy Layout police in bandages, and claimed that they had killed a man in self-defense.u00a0

However, the on-duty cop quickly noticed that the story didn't hold, and the cuts on their bodies looked self-inflicted. After a sustained interrogation, the three confessed to have killed the man in cold blood.

Love gone awry
The victim, Jagdish, managed a finance company. He was in love with Sandhya (name changed), daughter of Bhagya (45), a retail shop owner. Jagdish wanted to marry her, but Bhagya and Sandhya's brother Narendra were opposed to this relationship. Jagga was aware that Bhagya was in a relationship with Venkatesh, a moneylender, and threatened to expose them. But this didn't work, and Sandhya got engaged tou00a0 a third person. This irritated Jagdish to no end.

On Saturday, he went to Sandhya's house in Vaishnavinagar, in a drunken state. He asked Bhagya to send his daughter out. But instead, her brother came out, and told him to leave. This ensued in a loud argument, and a large crowd gathered. Jagdish disclosed Bhagya's relationship with Venkatesh. This angered Bhagya, and she called Venkatesh.

In cold blood
Venkatesh arrived with his friends Sendhil and Aslam, and convinced an inebriated Jagdish to an isolated spot, and killed him.

Following this, they slashed their hands and legs to make it looks like Jagdish attacked them, and went to a hospital to get first-aid. Then they approached the Kumarswamy Layout police station with their cover story, but were caught in their lie by the duty officer.

Babu Narona, PI, said, "The accused and the victim have other cases pending against them. We caught them in their lie within two hours, and are now investigating their other crimes."
