Castigate me if this offends you, but every man who accompanies his female companion to a shopping mall is like a corrupt official caught in a scam.
He wishes he wasn't there. Loaded with shopping bags, he stares at the names of the designer stores he can hardly pronounce. The escalator ride seems like an agonizing climb up the stairs of an Aztec sacrificial temple. A gulp ofu00a0 fresh air and a peep at the blue sky is all he desires.
The terrace dining area gives the mall-goer a breath of fresh air
A mouthful of sky
If you are a fellow victim, Joy Luck Sky, the terrace alfresco dinning area of Joy Luck Moon, a 'Chinese' restaurant in Select Citywalk Mall in Saket, can provide you with that much desired solace.
Sitting and sipping a chilled beer in Joy Luck Sky, watching planes fly by in slow motion and periodically nodding, pretending to listen to my friend is one of the most pleasurable activities I indulged myself in of late. March's nippy weather makes it a perfect place for a lazy brunch, come June the magic will be gone.
And the good ones are...
Some of the dishes here were a little hard for me to figure out. My confusion started with their claim to serve 'authentic' Chinese. Cantonese, Sichuan, Shandong, Jiangsu are the names that flash in my head. Then blame it on the sceptic inside a journalist's head and I started hearing sounds like American Chinese, Korean Chinese, Pakistani Chinese, Chinjabi.. oh! it was a painful ordeal. So I'll simply name a few dishes I tasted. Ginger garlic prawns were good to begin withu00a0-- crunchy, munchy and leaves you if only an illusion of eating something which won't expand your waistline.
Its vegetable version has lady fingers, cauliflowers and potatoes instead of prawns, again a decent choice to begin your meal. Pok choy with black mushrooms was again a good option. If you are red meat person, Spicy dry curry lamb or Lamb teppanyaki is what you could try. And if your taste leans towards fish then it should be Fish teppanyaki and Crispy wine chilly fish for you.u00a0
Joy Luck Moon certainly deserves a visit for its interesting dishes. And if nothing else, then to escape the maddening experience of being dragged into a mall.
