Akhilesh Yadav slams BJP govt over plight of tomato farmers in UP

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday hit out at the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that tomato farmers are not even able to recover their input costs, highlighting the government's "neglect" of the farming community. In a post on social media platform X, Yadav wrote, "The fact that tomato farmers in UP are not able to recover even their basic costs shows how much the BJP government neglects agriculture and farmers. The BJP is not interested in boosting production but rather in promoting the buying and selling of goods, so that they can earn (as an intermediary)." He further alleged that the BJP's approach to both the economy and politics is centred around intermediaries. "BJP wants to hand over farmers' lands and businesses to corporates on a wide scale so that they can extract hefty donations from them," he alleged. Citing the now-repealed farm laws, Yadav said, "The black laws brought by the BJP government were proof of their ill intentions. But thanks to the awareness and unity of the farmers, these laws could not be implemented." He also blamed the BJP for the stray cattle problem, saying it was a direct result of the party's "flawed policies." "These abandoned animals destroy crops, discouraging farmers from continuing agriculture. This paves the way for BJP-backed corporates to capture agricultural land," he said. Bloodbath on Indian Markets, Nifty opens at 1-year low, both indices down 5

The Indian markets followed the path of the global bloodbath in stock indices, and both the indices of India opened with heavy selling pressure. The Nifty 50 index tanked 5 per cent in the opening, marking one of the highest falls since COVID during opening, and opened at 21,758.40 points with a decline of 1,146.05 points or -5 per cent. Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down by 5.29 percent, opening at 71,379.8 with a decline of 3,984.80 points or 5.29 percent. Experts stated that the need of the hour is a reform package by the government to help the markets navigate this global selloff amid Trump's announcements. Ajay Bagga Banking and Market Expert, told ANI, "India will face the heat, not due to domestic reasons, but as an interlinked chain in the global portfolio flows. India will need a fiscal, monetary and reform package to protect the domestic economy from this global economic winter that is threatening to settle in. The consequences of an Economic-Nuclear policy which has announced the highest tariffs of a century on all trading partners are now coming home to roost." He further added, "Taking the cue from the USD 5.4 trillion 2-day meltdown in the US markets, we are seeing unprecedented selling in Asian markets, with Taiwan, which was closed on Thursday and Friday seeing a 20 per cent down day and Hong Kong seeing a 10 per cent cut and then some recovery". The experts also noted that the economic situation needs a rollback by the Trump administration, either as a postponement of the reciprocal tariffs or as some reduction. However, Trump Administration officials have stated that they see the tariffs being in place for the next few weeks/months. In the other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped sharply by 5.79 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index followed with a steep fall of around 10 per cent. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted Index also saw a major slide, losing 9.61 per cent in early trade. South Korea's KOSPI index was down by 4.14 per cent, while China's Shanghai Composite fell by 6.5 per cent at the time of filing this report. Australia's benchmark index, S&P/ASX 200 also registered a decline of 3.82 per cent, indicating that the sell-off was not limited to major manufacturing economies alone but had spread across the Asia-Pacific region. "Nifty 50 did not perform well and remained down, showing a strong bearish trend in the sector. A big red candle indicated the dominance of sellers in the sector, potentially pushing the price to a lower low. Currently, the price has broken one support level and is hovering towards the second. A breakdown below this support would confirm the continuation of the downtrend in the sector," said Sunil Gurjar, SEBI-registered research analyst and founder of Alphamojo Financial Services. The impact of Trump's tariff announcement was also visible in the American markets. Futures of the US stock index Dow Jones were down by 2.22 per cent, suggesting a negative start for the US markets as well. The price of Brent crude also declined to a 52-week low and trading at USD 63.97 at the time of filing this report. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. MP: Fake cardiologist booked after seven deaths at Damoh missionary hospital

A case has been registered against a man posing as a cardiologist at a missionary hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district, following the deaths of seven patients allegedly under his care, according to PTI. The Damoh police filed the FIR late on Sunday night based on a complaint by the district's Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Dr MK Jain, PTI reports. The accused, identified as Dr Narendra John Camm, has been booked for allegedly conducting critical cardiac procedures without proper medical registration. A team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is set to visit Damoh from 7th to 9th April to probe the allegations. Dr Jain’s complaint stated that Dr Camm had fraudulently carried out angiographies and angioplasties at the Mission Hospital despite not being registered with the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council, as is mandatory for all practising doctors in the state. “His name does not appear on the council’s database, and the registration number is missing from his documents,” the FIR noted, as per PTI. A preliminary investigation carried out by a panel of doctors – formed following a directive from the district collector – could not verify the authenticity of Dr Camm’s credentials. The hospital’s management later claimed the doctor had already vacated the premises. The FIR further stated that while the hospital had submitted a medical registration certificate from the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council for the accused, checks on the council’s official website revealed no such listing under the name ‘Dr Narendra John Camm’. The matter took a more disturbing turn when a local resident alleged in a previous complaint to the NHRC that the individual in question had used the alias ‘Dr N John Camm’, borrowing the identity of a well-known British cardiologist, Professor John Camm, in a bid to gain the trust of patients. The complainant claimed the man’s real identity is Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, and accused him of misrepresenting himself as foreign-educated and trained. The complaint also highlighted that several deaths had occurred in January and February this year due to the “unauthorised” treatment provided in the hospital’s cardiology department. NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo, in a post on X, said the deaths occurred as a result of heart procedures performed by an unqualified individual, and that the hospital operates under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Yojana, indicating misuse of public healthcare funds. Priyank Kanoongo (@KanoongoPriyank) April 4, 2025 Kanoongo confirmed that the NHRC’s investigation team will interview affected families, hospital staff, and local officials during their visit to Damoh. The inquiry will assess both institutional accountability and any lapses on part of administrative personnel involved. Damoh Collector Sudhir Kochar also confirmed that a complaint had been received and that an investigation is currently underway, PTI reports. The accused has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 315(4) for dishonest misappropriation, 338 for forgery, 336(3) for fraudulent alteration of documents, 340(2) for use of forged records, and 3(5) for joint criminal liability. Uddhav has left Balasaheb’s ideology for Rahul Gandhi’s politics: Poonawalla

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday, alleging that the latter has distanced himself from the ideology of his father, Balasaheb Thackeray, and embraced the political line followed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. According to ANI, Poonawalla's remarks came in response to a statement made by Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday, in which he claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after targeting Waqf properties, was now allegedly going after land belonging to Christians, Jains, Sikhs, and temples. In a statement to ANI, Poonawalla questioned Thackeray’s apparent ideological shift. “Uddhav Thackeray should explain what compulsion has led him to turn against his own father’s beliefs. Balasaheb Thackeray once demanded the complete abolition of the Waqf Board. But today, the man who claims to be Balasaheb’s political heir is opposing amendments to the Waqf Act,” said the BJP leader. Poonawalla accused Thackeray of performing a “political conversion,” stating, “After his ‘siyaasi dharmaantaran’ (political transformation), Uddhav Thackeray has not only abandoned Balasaheb’s principles but has effectively adopted Rahul Gandhi’s ideology.” In addition to targeting Thackeray, Poonawalla also criticised the Congress leader for selectively addressing issues in Bihar while ignoring serious concerns in states governed by the Congress party. Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla remarked, “Before Rahul Gandhi dons his white t-shirt for the ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ campaign in Bihar, he must decide what colour t-shirt he will wear when addressing issues of inflation, corruption, and lack of employment in Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka.” The BJP leader highlighted that in Karnataka, crimes against women were rising, while Telangana was witnessing deforestation and violence against students under the Congress-led Revanth Reddy government. “Why doesn’t Rahul Gandhi go there instead of focusing on Bihar?” he asked. He also took a jibe at the Congress-RJD alliance in Bihar, asserting that Rahul Gandhi must address the legacy of lawlessness under Lalu Yadav’s regime. “Migration in Bihar didn’t happen without reason. During Lalu Yadav’s time, schools were replaced by illegal weapons factories. If Rahul Gandhi is serious about employment, he must first break his alliance with RJD,” Poonawalla added. Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to join NSUI national in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar in the ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ Yatra in Begusarai, Bihar. Later, he will address a public meeting in Patna.
