The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended an additional individual in the Pune ISIS module case, bringing the total number of individuals arrested to eight, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

A report in the PTI stated that the investigating agency identified the suspect as Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam, a resident of Hazaribagh in the eastern state of Jharkhand. He, purportedly, had been actively engaged in promoting the terrorist activities of a designated foreign terrorist organisation.

“He is believed to be actively involved in promoting terrorist activities of the designated foreign terrorist organisation. Alam was an active ISIS operative along with his two aides Mohammad Imran Khan and Mohammad Yunus Saki, who were caught while attempting to steal a motorcycle,” the statement read.

Alam, along with his two associates, Mohammad Imran Khan and Mohammad Yunus Saki, had been active ISIS operatives, the report stated. Khan and Saki were apprehended while attempting to steal a motorcycle. Alam, on the other hand, had managed to evade capture by the Pune police on July 19. The NIA had issued a reward of Rs 3 lakh for information leading to his arrest. This reward offer ultimately led to credible information about his whereabouts and subsequent capture.

The investigation has revealed that Alam played a pivotal role in reconnaissance activities for potential hideout locations, conducted firing classes, and provided training in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The NIA's investigation into the ISIS Pune module case has exposed the accused individuals' intentions to carry out terrorist acts with the objective of disrupting peace and communal harmony in the country, all in furtherance of ISIS's agenda.

Last month, the NIA announced rewards for information leading to the capture of four persons who were wanted for their alleged involvement in terrorist activities. The persons for whom the rewards have been declared are Mohammad Shahnavaz Shafiquzima alias Shafi Ujjama, Rizwan Abdul, Abdulla Fayaz Sheikh and Talha Khan. They reportedly played active roles in ISIS-related activities and were at large. The probe agency offered a reward of Rs 3 lakh each for credible information that could lead to the arrest of these suspects.
