Western Railway (WR) is on a mission to fast-track the work on the sixth line between Khar and Goregaon station over the Mumbai Suburban section, the Western Railway informed on Monday.

In a press release, the Western Railway mentioned that some of the suburban locals, as announced earlier, have been cancelled due to the ongoing work on the line between Khar and Goregaon station.

To mitigate issues faced by commuters, the Western Railway was trying to restore a few local trains that were announced as cancelled, the release stated further.

It added that in order to bring respite and ensure the convenience of passengers, 68 trains were restored on Monday (October 30), reducing the number of trains cancelled to 248 against 316 as was announced earlier.

The commuters were forced to board overcrowded trains and they have criticised the authorities for failing to provide adequate alternative arrangements.

Fifteen more trains will be restored on Tuesday (October, 31), reducing the number of cancelled trains further to 233.

Further, according to the railway officials, the ongoing 6th line project will benefit passengers, especially commuters, on the Mumbai Suburban section and help improve punctuality as well as enable the augmentation of additional train services in the near future. (ANI)

Several suburban local train services were announced as cancelled, causing disruptions to daily commuters.

On Monday, Mumbai's suburban railway stations actual witnessed crowding and surge of people due to the spate of train cancellations by Western Railway (WR) in order to lay a sixth rail line between Khar and Goregaon. It was observed that commuters were faced with a daunting task as the reduced train services led to an unexpected increase in the volume of passengers during the morning and evening rush hours.

Platforms and trains were both more crowded than usual. By evening, WR authorities announced that they were rolling back a number of cancellations and many train services were being restored as the work proceeded. After the weekend holiday, working individuals and students were seen heading to their offices and colleges, respectively, which added to the crowd and increased the load on the train services available.
