Mumbai Police have arrested a female teacher under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly coercing a minor male student into a sexual relationship, officials confirmed, reported news agency ANI.
A 40-year-old female teacher from a prominent school in Mumbai has been arrested on suspicion of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old male student, a police official confirmed on Wednesday.
According to ANI, the married English language teacher is alleged to have taken the minor to luxury hotels where the abuse reportedly took place. Police revealed that the woman, who was taken into custody last week, displayed an obsession with the boy, attempting to contact him even after he had left the school this year.
According to the police official, the accused reportedly developed an attraction to her student during various meetings related to the school's annual function in December 2023, making her first alleged sexual advance in January 2024.
Furthermore, police stated that a friend of the accused, who was also a teacher at the school, encouraged the then Class 10 boy to engage in the illicit relationship.
This friend allegedly told the boy that affairs between older women and teenage boys were becoming common and that the teacher and student were "made for each other," as cited in the First Information Report (FIR).
Soon after the alleged assaults began, the student started to experience acute anxiety. While the teacher then reportedly supplied him with anti-anxiety pills. The official also stated that the teacher would frequently get the boy drunk before allegedly abusing him, according to ANI.
When the boy's family became aware of the exploitation after noticing a significant change in his behaviour. However, they initially remained silent, believing the situation would resolve once he completed school in a few months.
After clearing his Class 10 exams a few months ago and leaving the school, the boy, however, slipped into depression.
While following the boys’s deteriorating condition, his family ultimately decided to report the matter to the authorities when the accused again sent a message to the boy, via their domestic staff, requesting to meet him.
