Mumbai sees fewest Covid cases after February 9

Mumbai on Tuesday reported 441 new novel Coronavirus cases, the lowest after February 9 this year, and eight fatalities, the civic body said. The city now has 6,950 active cases. The state saw 7,243 cases but the fatalities rose at 196 deaths. It has 1,04,406 active cases.


With the new additions, the tally of Covid-19 infections in Mumbai reached 7,28,615 and the toll 15,644, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) update.


Tuesday is the second consecutive day when Mumbai recorded sub-500 cases and less than 10 Covid-19 fatalities. A day before, the financial capital reported 478 new cases and nine deaths. Of the eight patients who died, four had comorbidities, two were below 40 years, two were between 40 t0 60 years, four were above 60 years.


On February 9, Mumbai had reported 375 Covid-19 cases. With 600 patients being discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours, the number of recoveries in Mumbai rose to 7,03,677 so far, as per the BMC.

Mumbai’s average case doubling rate now stands at 925 days. The case recovery rate is 96 per cent, the civic body said.

In Maharashtra, 10,978 patients were discharged from hospitals since Monday evening, taking the number of recovered cases to 59,38,734, a health department official said. The state now has 1,04,406 active Covid-19 cases.

Maharashtra’s Covid-19 recovery rate is 96.21 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.04 per cent, the official said.

Vaccinations for students

Vaccination for Covid-19 will now be open from Monday to Saturday for those going abroad for education or employment purposes or for the Olympics. This additional three days concession is applicable only till August 31, said a BMC press statement on Tuesday. So far, the city has vaccinated 10,516 such beneficiaries and 6,554 have been fully vaccinated.

The vaccination facility has been provided to students, employees and Olympic athletes going abroad at seven places namely, Kasturba Hospital, KEM Hospital in Parel, Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri, Cooper Vile Parle, Municipal Corporation Centenary Hospital at Govandi, Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar and the Dahisar Jumbo Covid Centre.

Due to the shortage of vaccines, the numbers of inoculated beneficiaries dropped from over one lakh on Monday to just 52,456 on Tuesday. With Tuesday’s figures, the total number of beneficiaries vaccinated so far is 61,68,385. The number of senior citizens inoculated was 5,105, citizens above the age of 45 was 18,981 and those in the age group of 18 to 44 years was 26,422.
