For the first time since the second Covid-19 wave hit Mumbai, it recorded less than 200 cases on Monday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, while the city saw 190 infections, fatalities due to Covid fell to three.

It was on April 11, 2020, when the city recorded 189 cases after which the graph went up. After a marginal rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) on Sunday at 0.74 per cent, the city saw a dip and it was 0.71 per cent on Monday, the second wave’s lowest TPR. On Saturday, too, the TPR was 0.71 per cent. For the first time on July 29, Mumbai’s TPR had dipped below 1 per cent.
The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 — on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5, when the TPR was 10.96. The doubling rate has improved and was 1,966 days on Monday.

Of the three deaths reported in the city, three patients had comorbidities, one death was of a patient above 60 years of age and two deaths were of those between 40 and 60 years. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, as 271 people were discharged after full recovery on Monday.
The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a significant dip as they went below 5,000. On Monday, 4,145 new cases were registered across the state. The fatalities also saw a dip as 100 deaths were reported. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.11 per cent, as 5,811 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 62,452 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a significant dip in cases on Monday. As per the state report, 465 cases were reported in the MMR region, including Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad saw 51 cases and Panvel, 50. Thane reported 25 new cases while Navi Mumbai saw 30 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 22 cases each on Monday.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered eight Covid-19 fatalities on Monday. Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli and Vasai-Virar saw two deaths each, highest in the MMR after Mumbai. Panvel and Palghar saw one death each.
