The police have seized the vehicle Rajat Bedi was driving at the time of the accident

Thirty-nine-year-old Rajesh Ramsingh Baudh, who was hit by actor Rajat Bedi’s car near the DN Nagar Metro station two days back, died at the Cooper Hospital on Tuesday. Following this, the DN Nagar police added IPC section 304-A (causing death by negligence) in the FIR and booked the actor, though he has not been arrested yet. Hospital sources said Baudh needed 10-12 bottles of O- blood for immediate surgery on Monday night, but the family couldn’t arrange for it.

Following the accident, police had conducted a medical check-up of Baudh and found that he was drunk. Hospital sources said that he died due to serious head injuries. The cops have sent his body for post-mortem. Police said that they have seized the car that Bedi was driving and it is registered on his mother’s name. According to a source, the car’s PUC certificate had expired in May.

Actor booked

Senior inspector, Milind Kurde said, “We have added section 304-A (causing death by negligence) in the FIR against Bedi. We have not arrested him yet and are investigating.” Deceased Baudh’s sister told mid-day, “My brother was crossing the road near DN Nagar metro station when Bedi’s car hit him. He was drunk but was in a condition to cross the road. While a crowd gathered at the spot, one of our cousins identified him and informed us. The actor took him to Cooper Hospital and admitted him. However, late that night he escaped from the hospital even though my brother needed blood urgently. Before leaving, Bedi gave some money to his driver and said that he would arrange for the blood, but nothing was done. On Tuesday morning Bedi sent his team to help us with blood but it was too late by then.”

A source from Cooper Hospital said, “After Baudh’s admission, the doctors asked his family to arrange for 10-12 bottles of O negative blood but they couldn’t get it.” Dean of Cooper Hospital, Dr. Shailesh Mohite told mid-day, “Baudh died in hospital late on Tuesday night. We have sent his body for post-mortem and are awaiting the report.”

‘Not Bedi’s fault’

When contacted, Bedi’s business manager, Sridevi Shetty said, “It is an unfortunate incident though it was not Bedi’s fault, he was driving very slowly. Baudh suddenly came in front of the car and he was fully drunk. Bedi immediately took him to Cooper Hospital and extended all possible help and support to arrange for blood. Bedi had been praying for his recovery but his sudden demise has left him shattered. We wish to express our sincere heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and will help them in whatever way possible. Bedi’s friend Suresh has been with them throughout and helped them with medicines, treatment and did his final rites today. Rajat is cooperating with the authorities.” Shetty refused to divulge any details regarding the ownership of the car that has been seized.
