A major incident was averted after CNG gas leaked from a parked vehicle in Thane district of Maharashtra on Thursday, the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said.


It said that no one was injured in the incident.


The civic body said that the incident occurred at around 14:55 pm, on the road in front of Kashinath Society, near Ghantali Temple, Ghantali, Naupada, Thane (West) when an auto-rickshaw was parked at the spot.


The information was received that CNG gas leakage originated from a parked auto-rickshaw.

Responding swiftly to the situation, the Disaster Management Cell staff, along with one pickup vehicle, and fire brigade personnel with one fire vehicle, arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the situation was brought under control in a timely manner.

The gas leakage was successfully contained by closing the gas knob, and the auto-rickshaw was handed back to its owner, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, in an another incident on Thursday, a fire broke out at a fast food corner near Thane railway station, the RDMC said in a statement.

According to the official, the incident took place around 12:28 pm on October 12, 2023. A fryer machine within the fast food corner of G-Grillys Shop caught fire.

The incident occurred at Thane railway station near beside platform No 01.

The Disaster Management Unit of Thane Municipal Corporation along with other emergency response agencies such as Naupada police, electricity distribution personnel, disaster management cell personnel, and the fire brigade promptly reached the location.

According to the officials, a total of one pickup vehicle, one fire vehicle, and one jeep vehicle were mobilised to manage the fire incident. The fire was controlled timely and no one was injured in the incident.

"No injuries were reported at the scene, and the on-ground responders took immediate steps to mitigate the harm," stated the official.

"Two commercial Bharat Gas Cylinders from Sadar's Fast Food Corner were safely handed over to the Thane Fire Brigade, in order to ensure no further avert calamity occurs," added the official.

"The situation has been effectively brought under control," added the official further.
