Having noticed heavy police bandobast and regular nakabandis around a building in Mira Road for the past few days, mid-day reporter Priti Khuman Thakur did some digging and found out that PM Narendra Modi’s wife, Jashodaben (seated), has been there since Sunday to meet a few relatives.

Mukul Panchal, her nephew, told mid-day, “Jashodaben gets up early every day and offers prayers for the well-being and continued success of her husband.” Jashodaben’s brother, Ashok, said, “She lived at her in-laws’ place for two-three years after getting married to Narendra Modi on May 10, 1968.
After that, our father paid for her education and she became a teacher. We have never told people that she is Modi’s wife. She has not got any special treatment after Modi became the PM, except for police protection.”
Five policemen from Gujarat have accompanied Jashodaben to Mumbai, and a team of the Kashimira police consisting of an inspector and four constables has also been stationed outside the building where she is staying. A police van can also be found outside the building.
Police Inspector Anil Kadam from Kashimira police station said, “Following orders from the SP, we have provided security and are conducting nakabandis at various places in Mira Road. We did not want to make Jashodaben’s visit public.”
