The bomb detection personnel along with sniffer dogs searched the Maharashtra secretariat in South Mumbai on Thursday after police received a phone call about an explosive being placed in the high-security complex, but it turned out to be a false alarm, an official said, reported the PTI.

A man, who was under the influence of alcohol, was later detained in Ahmednagar in western Maharashtra for allegedly making the bomb threat call, he said, according to the PTI.

A phone call was received on 112 helpline of the Navi Mumbai police in the afternoon about a bomb being placed in Mantralaya or the state secretariat, said the official, as per the PTI.

After the call, Mumbai police personnel along with a bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and sniffer dogs rushed to the state government's administrative headquarters and thoroughly checked the premises, but no suspicious object was found, he said.

During investigations it was found that the call was made from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.

This was the second incident in the last 15 days when a call about bomb threat at the secretariat was received by the police. The first call had also turned out to be a hoax as nothing suspicious was found.

In an another incident, Mumbai Police on Thursday detained a man after a knife was allegedly found in his bag when he was entering Mantralaya, the Maharashtra secretariat complex in south Mumbai, a police official said, reported the PTI.

The man, who was being questioned by the police, is a resident of Umarga tehsil in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, the official told the PTI.

"While entering the new administrative building of Mantralaya in the afternoon for some work, his bag was scanned and a knife was found inside. Police personnel at the site detained him and he is being questioned about why he was in possession of a knife," the official said, as per the PTI.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police registered a case against 11 protesters on the charge of attempting suicide after they climbed onto a safety net on the first floor of the Maharashtra secretariat in south Mumbai for various demands, an official said on Wednesday, the PTI reported.

A group of protesters on Tuesday allegedly climbed onto the safety net set up on the first floor of Mantralaya demanding proper compensation for their land acquired for the Upper Wardha dam project. They are residents of Morshi in Amravati district, according to police, according to the PTI.
