This Sunday is World Good Deeds Day, so a city-based social enterprise is encouraging citizens to do their bit in their own small way

With a vision to spread goodness in the world, Shari Arison, an Israeli businesswoman and philanthropist, had initiated Good Deeds Day in 2007. Since then, the day is celebrated on different dates in April with the intent to unite people across the continents, so they can pool in their efforts towards doing something good to make a change, big or small. This year, the day will be celebrated on April 3.

Taking a cue from this, iVolunteer, a Mumbai-based social enterprise that promotes volunteering opportunities across the country, is organising Paintathon For a Cause, wherein volunteers can sign up to paint the compound wall of a government school in Prabhadevi. “We believe that everyone has it in them to do an act of kindness; we provide the platform to take it forward,” says Shalabh Sahai, co-founder and director, iVolunteer.

iVolunteer has been celebrating World Good Deeds Day since 2017. “We feel that doing a good deed on a single day is not sufficient, and so we have scheduled over 30 activities that will be held across India throughout April,” Sahai adds. He shares that there are occasions when individuals are unable to make time to volunteer for such initiatives, and so this platform also organises virtual activities that offer online orientation to individuals and groups. This helps them carry out that particular activity at their convenience.
ON April 3, 9 am onwards AT Prabhadevi Manpa Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Prabhadevi.
