If you want to do your bit for Mother Nature but are clueless about how to go about it, we
say shop!
The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), which has been working towards saving the environment and making people aware of the eco-system through various research and conservation programmes, has come out with a funky new range of souvenirs that make for an ideal memento or gift, during this festive season.
Coffee and tea lovers can choose from the mug collection imprinted with paintings and images of birds and animals such as tigers, leopards, elephants, flamingos and deer.
"Many of the images have been captured by our scientists and programme officers, and with the help of our recently launched online shopping section, it will be easier for people to browse through these products," shares Atul Sathe, Public Relations Officer, BNHS. Apart from ceramic mugs (the entire profits will go to charity) they also have a range of glossy steel hot mugs, where a part of the proceeds will go towards conservation.
With Diwali just a few weeks away you can also buy their festive cards (Rs 10.50 onwards). In addition to their calendars and planners they also have a calendar cheekily titled, Long Legged Beauties of India (Rs 65), that features photographs of birds including flamingos and storks, known for their long legs.
The soft toys section got our nod as well -- cuddly lions, eagles, elephants and other endangered birds and animals (Rs 429 and Rs 476) are delightful alternatives to the more common teddy bears. As with most of their souvenirs, all proceeds go for various conservation projects.
