Manoj Muntashir suggests building toilets over Aurangzeb's grave

Saints in Ayodhya have voiced their support for lyricist Manoj Muntashir's suggestion to build toilets over the grave of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in India. Saint Vishnu Das, Mahant Sitaram Das, and Acharya Paramhans are among those backing Muntashir's proposal. They stated that cruel invaders like Aurangzeb should not have a tomb or shrine in India. While speaking to ANI, Saint Vishnu Das from Ayodhya called Auragzeb a tyrant ruler who was bent on destroying the Sanatan Dharma. He said, "We are supporting his words a lot because Aurangzeb was bent on destroying Sanatan Dharma. Our Manoj lyricist has said that toilets should be built; it is very good to construct a toilet in his grave." Acharya Paramhans Maharaj expressed his willingness to cooperate financially if toilets were constructed on Aurangzeb's grave, calling it a way to eradicate a "big stigma" from India. While talking to ANI, Paramhans Maharaj said, "Manoj Muntashir has said a thing by which a big stigma of India will be eradicated. Aurangzeb Aurangzeb killed the seventh guru of the Sikhs. He tormented Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for forty days. Therefore, we asked him to remove Aurangzeb's grave but he has suggested better that toilets should be built there. Therefore, Aurangzeb was a stigma on the earth, there was a stigma for Islam, a stigma for humanity. If a toilet is built on his grave, then we will definitely cooperate financially, and I will inaugurate it." Mahant Sitaram Das of Saket Bhawan temple emphasized that invaders like Aurangzeb shouldn't have any kind of tomb or grave in India, citing the country's constitutional and Hindu values. "Certainly invaders like Aurangzeb do not need any kind of mazar or his tomb in India. This India is a constitutional country and a country of Sanatanis and Hinduism. There is no need for radical jihadist and terrorist ideology in this country. Why do such attackers need their graves in India? Then there should be a toilet built there," said Mahant Sitaram Das. Manoj Muntashir's suggestion comes amid a political row over whether Aurangzeb's grave should be razed. Muntashir argued that destroying the grave isn't necessary and instead proposed building toilets, symbolizing India's commitment to cleanliness and hygiene under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The 'Adipurush' lyricist, Manoj Muntashir, spoke to ANI on Tuesday and said, "If Aurangzeb's grave is a place for one to be proud of, then they need to think again about their patriotism." The lyricist said, "Aurangzeb's grave is a monument of national shame. Which is there in that place that any Indian should be proud of?... If Aurangzeb's grave is a place for one to be proud of, then they need to think again about their patriotism.... " He added, "When we were fighting a legal battle for the Ram Temple, they had given us advice that Ram is present in every particle, so a hospital or a school should be built there instead... I want to repeat what they said... There is no need to destroy Aurangzeb's grave. Instead, a toilet should be built on it. Swachh Bharat Mission is going on... What can be a better place than Aurangzeb's grave to build toilets in the country?..." He also took to X to share a video and captioned it, "Aurangzeb's grave should not be removed, why? Let me tell you!" Earlier, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar suspended Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi for the entire duration of the ongoing budget session over his remarks on Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Azmi had reportedly said that Aurangzeb was not a "cruel administrator" and "built many temples". He added that the battle between the Mughal emperor and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was for state administration and not about Hindus and Muslims. Maharashtra Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Abu Asim Azmi on Friday accused the media of "maligning" him by "misrepresenting" his statement on Aurangzeb, requesting Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar to revoke his suspension. In a letter addressed to Narwekar, Azmi maintained that he was not at fault in this matter. "The media tried to malign me by misrepresenting my statement, so I humbly request that my suspension be withdrawn as I am not at fault in this matter," he said. The Maharashtra SP chief clarified that he was followed by mediapersons, who asked him for his reaction to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma invoking Aurangzeb while criticising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. "On March 3, media representatives followed me while leaving the hall. Outside the hall, they asked me the question that the Chief Minister of Assam compared Rahul Gandhi to Aurangzeb. In this context, I quoted Meena Bhargava's article and said he helped the temples," Azmi said. "No statement has been made about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. I showed respect for them. My image has been tarnished by attributing to me words which I didn't speak," the letter read. He highlighted that his statements about Aurangzeb were based on "historical facts" and that India was a golden sparrow during that time. He said that Aurangzeb and Chhatrapati Shivaji were not fighting for religion but for power and land. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Randeep Hooda’s first look in Jaat. Pics/Yogen Shah, Instagram

Jaat: Randeep Hooda gains 8 kilos to transform into Ranatunga

Give Randeep Hooda a powerful role, and he will mould himself physically to become the character. From achieving the emaciated look for Sarbjit (2016) to losing over 30 kilos for his last offering Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (2024), the actor is no stranger to physical transformation. He has gone down the road again for Jaat, where he plays a ruthless gangster Ranatunga pitted against leading man Sunny Deol.    18 Kilos Randeep Hooda lost for Sarbjit The actor’s look was recently unveiled in a teaser. For the Gopichand Malineni-directed actioner, Hooda had to bulk up, gaining eight kilos and adding muscle mass. Sources tell us that the actor trained for 11 months before he reported to the shoot last September. A source reveals, “Randeep’s daily regimen consisted of intense weight-lifting, functional fitness drills, and combat-style workouts designed to enhance agility and power. Along with his trainer Durgesh Gudilu, he focused on compound movements like deadlifts, squats, and bench presses, ensuring his frame carried the imposing presence required for the character. Alongside strength training, he incorporated boxing and MMA-inspired drills, to lend aggression to his movements that would reflect in the action sequences.” 30 Kilos the actor shed for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar  With Malineni designing Jaat as a full-blown actioner, he envisioned Hooda’s Ranatunga as a rugged and brute gangster, who could hold his own against Deol. With that brief, the actor-director duo, along with the styling team, arrived at his avatar—a bulky physique, grimy appearance, unkempt hair, and aggressive body language. The source breaks it down further, saying, “From day one, Randeep was committed to making Ranatunga an intimidating villain. The unkempt hair complements his hardened visage. He also worked extensively on his body language. His gait and posture were meticulously crafted to make his character appear terrifying. For 12 weeks, the actor also worked with a dialect coach.” The upcoming movie also stars Regina Cassandra and Saiyami Kher.

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in Karan Arjun

When Salman Khan pulled out a gun and 'shot' Shah Rukh Khan on Karan Arjun set

It’s been months since the 1995 film Karan Arjun marked its re-release in theatres. Directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, it is one of the rare movies that brought together two of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles. Actor-comedian Johnny Lever, who was also a part of the film recently shared an anecdote which left everyone on set shocked.  Salman Khan ‘shot’ SRK with his gun  In an interview with Galatta, Johnny Lever recalled the time Salman and Shah Rukh played a prank on the entire cast and crew. He shared, "We were shooting Karan Arjun in Jaipur, and after shooting in the evening, we used to party. We were drinking, dancing, and enjoying. Salman used to tease Shah Rukh on the set. He used to call him a star and tease his dancing. We were all worried that Shah Rukh would be offended if it turned serious.” He added, "One evening at the party, the two started fighting all of a sudden (Salman pulls out a gun). Shah Rukh collapsed. We all were shocked. Honey Irani gasped. She was on the verge of an attack. But they were joking. What a prank it was. Then Shah Rukh got up and both of them just started laughing." A couple of years ago, Salman had recounted the prank on Aap Ki Adalat revealing he used a blank gun from the set.  About Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Karan Arjun’ Besides Salman and Shah Rukh, the film also starred Rakhee, Kajol, Mamta Kulkarni, and Amrish Puri. It told the story of two brothers, who are reincarnated to seek revenge on their mother’s behalf. Over the years, ‘Karan Arjun’ (1995) has remained etched in pop culture due to its high-on-recall dialogues like 'Mere Karan Arjun Aayenge', soul-stirring music by Rajesh Roshan in songs like 'Yeh Bandhan Toh...', 'Bhangda Paale', 'Rana ji Maaf Karna' and 'Jaati Hoon Main' along with the endearing theme of brotherhood. Shah Rukh and Salman were seen sharing screen space in the 2023 films Pathaan and Tiger 3. The two did cameos for each other’s films which were loved by their fans and the audience.

My Melbourne filmmaker Onir on the need to support indie and queer films

When presented with the opportunity to explore diversity in My Melbourne, filmmaker Onir knew he wanted to view it from the lens of sexuality. From there was born Nandini, his short film about a queer man mending his strained relationship with his father after his mother passes away. “So many young people talk to me about the fear of getting rejected for their choices, especially by their fathers. Mothers are more accepting. This story is inspired by the real life of our writer, Gregory Francis,” says the director. In his short film, Onir says it was as important to delve into the father’s mindset as it was to show the son’s hurt. “When you seek empathy and acceptance, a dialogue is important. Here, the son and the father are in a constant see-saw. For instance, the son realises that his father is uncomfortable seeing nail colour on him, so he takes it off. In the course of time, he will wear it again and his father will accept it.”  Onir The director has been a champion of queer stories not only through his work, but also by supporting movies of other filmmakers. However, he notes the glaring lack of support for independent films and queer narratives from within the industry. “Earlier, everyone would talk about each other’s work. But now, they are reluctant to attend your film’s première. For me, it’s important to celebrate an All We Imagine as Light [2024], or a Village Rockstars 2 [2024]. But I don’t know how many people would do it. A lot of indie and queer films struggle to not only find finance but also a release outlet.” Isn’t it ironic that even though there are more platforms thanks to streamers, there are few queer stories? “The decision-makers are perhaps under the pressure of being answerable for eyeballs. Everything zeroes down to the fact that no one is willing to take responsibility beyond tokenism.” Deepa Mehta to present Onir’s next Deepa Mehta Onir’s next feature film, We Are Faheem and Karun, is being presented by Deepa Mehta. The director is thrilled to have Mehta’s support as the queer love story gears up for its première. He shares, “It will have its première at an international festival, and in the next six months, we’ll travel to festivals across the world. Personally, it’s very special because Deepa was the first Indian filmmaker to bring out a queer story [Fire, 1996]. She has been a constant ally. Her love for the film and my work is something I really cherish.”
