MI vs RCB live: Mumbai's Boult strikes early, castles Phil Salt to jolt RCB

Mumbai Indians will be hoping to turn their season around when they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, and they have just the boost they need, the return of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. After losing three of their first four games in the IPL 2025 season, the Paltans are in desperate need of a resurgence, and Bumrah's comeback could be the catalyst. With three defeats in four games marking yet another poor start for the five-time winners, Mumbai Indians are grappling with batting woes. Only two MI batters have hit half-centuries so far in four matches, Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton. Among all the 10 IPL teams, this is the least number of contributions in terms of fifties per batter. Scoring fifties has always been tough in T20 cricket, but IPL teams have increasingly moved towards being top-heavy with their best batters getting most overs to bat. MI's only win so far came last week over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede, and they would need an encore. For the visiting Royal Challengers, it would be an opportunity to exploit MI's batting frailties and pile up further pressure on their opponents. Virat Kohli has blown hot and cold as he began this IPL with 59 not out against KKR but since then has struggled. But RCB have enough firepower in their ranks to keep pushing for bigger totals, with Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal providing fireworks and skipper Rajat Patidar the necessary cushion if things are going against them. RCB are placed at third position in the points table and would be keen to bounce back from their loss to Gujarat Titans in their last outing. IPL 2025: RCB’s nemesis? Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL stats tell the story

While hoping to turn their season around when they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, five-time champions Mumbai Indians may have just the boost they need with the return of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. After losing three of their first four games in the IPL 2025, the Paltans are in desperate need of a resurgence, and Bumrah's comeback could be the catalyst. The 31-year-old speedster has been out of competitive action since January, following a stress reaction in his lower back sustained during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The injury forced him to miss several major fixtures, including the Champions Trophy and the early stages of the current IPL season. Since then, Bumrah has been undergoing an extensive rehabilitation program under close medical supervision. IPL 2025: How could Mumbai Indians manage Jasprit Bumrah's workload after his return post-injury ? Now declared fit, Bumrah has reportedly been cleared by the franchise to feature in the matchday squad against RCB. However, Mumbai Indians are expected to tread cautiously with his workload. If MI at all bat first, Bumrah is likely to be utilised as an Impact Player, so the team is allowed to manage his return more effectively. He may then be rotated during his spells, possibly fielding only in parts of the innings to prevent aggravation of the injury. How has Bumrah fared against RCB so far? Bumrah’s return is particularly significant given his stellar record against RCB. In 19 matches against the Rajat Patidar-led side, he has scalped 29 wickets at an average of 19.03 and an economy rate of 7.45. His best performance came just last season at the Wankhede, where he dismantled the RCB batting lineup with a sensational 5/21. Notably, the last time Bumrah missed an entire IPL season was in 2023 due to injury. He returned in 2024 with a bang, playing 13 matches and bagging 20 wickets for the franchise. Across his IPL career, the India pacer has featured in 133 matches, claiming 165 wickets and establishing himself as one of the most consistent fast bowlers in the league.

"Respect conditions": Daniel Vettori's message to SRH batters after another flop

Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori will continue to back his explosive batters after another flop show against the Gujarat Titans. However, he acknowledged that his batters need to "respect" pitch conditions and the fact that opposition bowlers are "putting a lot of planning" into their top three. Hyderabad's belligerent batters continued to misfire as the Sunrisers fell to their fourth defeat on the trot in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With their bats resorting to silence and 'Miyaan Magic' mesmerising the spectators, Hyderabad packed their bags on 152/8 in 20 overs. In reply, the Titans gunned down the target in a mere 16.4 overs and emerged triumphant with seven wickets. "I think we know the style is going to work, but we have to respect conditions, and we have to assess really well, and that's probably something we haven't done. Also, [we] have to respect how well other teams are bowling, putting a lot of planning into our top three, and they haven't been able to execute it at times," Vettori said in the post-match press conference, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. Vettori felt the turf on Sunday wasn't a typical Hyderabad surface. According to him, the slow and "tough" conditions made it a mounting task for the batters to reach the 160-170 total they were striving for. "I think they saw that the wicket was really tough, and the assessment coming back was 160-170 would be a good score, which is what we anticipated at the start of the day. So we knew that those guys, if they could get themselves in, build a partnership and then hopefully attack the back end, and we were pretty close to that in the end," he said. Also Read: MI vs RCB, IPL 2025: Predicted playing XIs, head-to-head, injuries and more "We needed 20 more runs to put the pressure on and then obviously bowl really well. But I think their [GT's] understanding of what was required was spot on," he added. Sunrisers sang harmoniously after tonking a 286/6 against the Rajasthan Royals in their campaign opener. However, Hyderabad lost its muse and has been on a downhill path, struggling to present a collective piece of their performances that come in patches. Despite four successive defeats, Vettori doesn't feel the panic button has been hit in his camp. But he understands the ramifications of their current situation and the need to return to winning ways in their upcoming fixtures. "I don't think Pat [Cummins] has ever panicked in his life, and I think I'm pretty similar. But we understand the ramifications of losing four in a row and how difficult it makes the season. It's tough because obviously you come into the season with high expectations after [finishing as runners-up] last year and then a very good start," he said. But we just haven't been near our best in the last four games. I think that's all three disciplines. I think the barometer of most teams is how their fielding's going, and we've been pretty poor in the field. So those will be the work-ons between now and the Punjab game. And we know that if we can get on a roll, then we're still a very good team. We're just not performing the way that we should be," he added. While the focus on the Sunrisers in the 18th edition has been on their beleaguered batters, Vettori sees it differently. The former New Zealand spinner believes his side needs a lift in all three spectrums of the game. "We haven't been able to click in a game. We look back to last year, and our skills were putting big scores on and then sort of holding on for dear life with the ball," he said. "But we haven't been able to put those big scores together through a combination of things," he said. "The good thing about the IPL is there are quick turnarounds, there are opportunities to do well, and there are individual performances within those games. So I think there's still some confidence within the batting group, but it's the collective that needs to stand up now," he added. "I was not able to digest...": Mohammed Siraj on being snubbed from CT squad

Speedster Mohammed Siraj said that he was initially not able to accept his snub from Team India for the Champions Trophy (CT) earlier this year. In the IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the pacer registered the figures of four wickets for 17 runs. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the GT pacer shared his thoughts on being dropped from the Indian squad. "At one time, I was not able to digest it (having not been picked for Champions Trophy) but I kept my spirits up and worked on my fitness and game. "Whatever mistakes I was making, I worked on those and I'm enjoying my bowling. "As a professional, when you are consistently with the Indian team, a doubt grows in your mind (on him being dropped) but I cheered myself up and was looking forward to the IPL." Also Read: MI vs RCB, IPL 2025: Where to watch, squads, pitch report, weather, live streaming and more The IPL 2025 match against SRH was held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Playing at the home ground, Mohammed Siraj was pleased that he was able to deliver a performance in front of his parents. "When you come to your home ground, it's a special feeling. My family was there in the crowd and that lifted me up. I have played seven years for RCB. I have worked hard on my bowling and also on my mindset, it's working really well for me." Following Siraj's four-wicket haul, Gujarat was able to restrict Hyderabad to 152 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Gujarat Titans' skipper Shubman Gill heaped praise on Siraj by saying that his energy is infectious. "The energy he brings is tremendous. When playing against him, you want him in your team. His energy is infectious," said Gill. Later in the run chase, Washington Sundar shouldered Gill. The left-hander also expressed his thoughts while batting with the skipper. He said, "Skipper kept telling me to play as deep as possible. Got off to a good start and wanted to bat as deep as possible and finish for the team. This has been the trend in Hyderabad in the last few years. In the second innings, the wicket gets better and easier to chase 160-170 on the board. I was well aware of it and it helped me." Gujarat Titans will now lock horns with Rajasthan Royals in their next IPL 2025 fixture on April 9. (With PTI Inputs)

IPL 2025: GT pacer Ishant Sharma penalised for code of conduct breach

Gujarat Titans pacer Ishant Sharma has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.  "Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," the BCCI's official statement read. As per IPL code of conduct, the Article 2.2 relates to abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match. Also Read: ISL: Jamshedpur enter Mohun Bagan's den with 2-1 advantage and eye on final It also includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. Meanwhile, GT made it a hat-trick of wins to jump up to second place on the IPL 2025 points table with a convincing seven-wicket victory against hosts SRH). Siraj continuing his superb run of form, courtesy of 4-17, his career-best bowling figures in the IPL, as SRH were restricted to 152/8. Ishant, however, was the most expensive GT bowler on the day as he went wicketless after conceding 53 runs in his four-over quota. Captain Shubman Gill then led a chase of 153 with a classy 60 not out off 42 balls with Washington Sundar and Sherfane Rutherford's free-flowing knocks helping GT over the line with as many as 20 deliveries to spare. ‘There’s a trust factor of relying on each other’

Talismanic batter Virat Kohli spoke about his bond with his long-time teammate and India skipper Rohit Sharma, saying that there’s always been a trust factor between them as they have relied on each other to do the job of winning matches for the team.  “I think it’s a very natural thing to take place when you play with someone for so long and you share so much of your insight of the game. Initially, you’re learning from each other; you’re kind of growing in your careers at probably the same time, and you share all kinds of queries and questions. So, there were always ideas discussed and more or less we would end up being on the same page in terms of what the gut feel of that particular situation or that particular game demands,” said Kohli in a video posted on RCB’s X account on Sunday. “There’s a trust factor that builds in terms of you can rely on each other to do the job for the team. We have enjoyed our time playing together for so long for India. We were able to make our careers that long because when we were young, it was not certain that we were going to end up playing for 15 years for India,” Kohli added. Mumbai Indians receive huge boost as Jasprit Bumrah returns to the camp

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians, who have won just one out of their four encounters in IPL-18, got a huge boost as their ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah returned to the side before the crucial game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium tonight. Even though MI had a disastrous show in IPL-17 with just four wins in 14 games, Bumrah was the only top-class performer, who emerged the third-highest wicket-taker with 20 scalps after Punjab Kings’ Harshal Patel (24) and Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy (21). And with Bumrah joining the side, you could see a big relief on MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene’s smiling face when he appeared for the pre-match press conference on Sunday.    Also Read: IPL 2025 | "I’m enjoying my bowling": Mohammed Siraj after four-wicket haul vs SRH Mahela Jayawardene. Pic/Sayyed Sameer Abedi “Boom’s coming back from a pretty decent layoff, so we need to give him that space. We’re very happy to have him in the camp, the experience he brings, that extra voice out there in the middle, chatting with Boulty [Trent Boult], chatting with Deepak [Chahar] or any other younger bowler, giving that advice is also very valuable for us. That’s what we’re looking forward to from him,” Jayawardene told reporters on Sunday. “He’s [Bumrah] available, he’s training today [Sunday], and should be available [for the RCB game]. He arrived last night, he had his sessions with NCA [National Cricket Academy in Bangalore] to finalise that he’s been handed over to our physios. He’s bowling today, so all good,” Jayawardene remarked. Four IPL games missed   Bumrah, 31, was ruled out of the Champions Trophy and from MI’s first four games in the ongoing IPL due to a back injury. He last played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Sydney Test against Australia in January. He was declared fit by BCCI’s Centre of Excellence on Saturday. As the MI camp is enjoying Bumrah’s return, it may become a headache for RCB. The Ahmedabad-born pacer has a good record versus RCB’s top performer Virat Kohli. He has dismissed the former RCB captain five times, including last season’s game at the same venue when Kohli managed just three off nine balls.Cricket fans at the Wankhede Stadium may also get to watch a battle of supremacy among the two star batters from both camps — former MI captain Rohit Sharma and Kohli. Rohit practised batting for more than half-an-hour, facing Bumrah, Trent Boult and all MI bowlers with quiet ease on Sunday evening. Even Jayawardene is not worried about Rohit’s fitness as well as his form. “He’s batting well in the nets. If you’re telling me that every two innings, you’re going to look at someone’s performance, it’s a bit unfair. I remember his last innings was [in] the Champions Trophy-winning knock so, we have to give [support] and back the experienced guys and [expect] them to come to the party. As Mumbai [Indians], we’ve always backed the core group to deliver for us and we’re going to do that. It’s unfortunate that he got a knock in the nets. Hopefully, he will be 100 per cent then,” Jayawardene replied to mid-day’s query on Rohit’s form. Rohit, who led MI to five IPL titles, scored a match-winning 76 against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai last month.     RCB’s Tim David confident Meanwhile, RCB’s Tim David was confident of his team playing well today. “We’re looking forward to this game, we haven’t dwelled too much on any match. It’s very rewarding when you win and you take your lessons from losses. But again, another great game here in Mumbai, they’ve obviously set up their team to play well in these conditions at one of the best batting pitches in the country, so let’s hope we get that tomorrow [Monday] night,” said David, who scored an 18-ball 32 against GT, in which the hosts lost by eight wickets on Wednesday.

"I’m enjoying my bowling": Mohammed Siraj after four-wicket haul vs SRH

Hyderabad boy Mohammed Siraj proved to be the nemesis of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Thanks to his career-best IPL spell of 4-0-17-4, a dominant Gujarat Titans side destroyed SRH by seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Sunday. A demoralised SRH succumbed to their fourth successive defeat, while GT notched up their third win in four matches to climb to the second spot. Chasing 153, GT lost two wickets by the fourth over with Mohammed Shami and skipper Pat Cummins dismissing left-hander Sai Sudharsan (5) and Jos Buttler (0) in quick succession. But skipper Shubman Gill (61 not out off 43 balls) and Washington Sundar (49) weathered the early storm with a 90-run stand off 56 balls to put GT on the road to victory. Getting his Titans cap at the start of the match, the Tamil Nadu left-hander slid in gracefully as a top-order batsman, while Gill was at his flamboyant best, leaving SRH high and dry. Impact batter Sherfane Rutherford hastened the end with a quick-fire 35 off 16 balls. Earlier, enjoying his bowling with his new team GT under Ashish Nehra, Siraj decimated SRH batters. Also Read: IPL 2025 | "I’ve worked a lot with him": KL Rahul credits this former player for his regain in form Shubman Gill during his 61 not out yesterday ‘Enjoying my bowling’ Ever since he was overlooked for the Champions Trophy, the Indian pacer said he was working on his bowling. “I’m enjoying my bowling,’’ said Siraj, who was playing in front of his home crowd. Even though the wicket was on the slower side, Siraj attacked the stumps to demolish SRH at the start and at the end of the innings. Put in to bat, SRH batters, who instilled fears in the opponents’ mind last year, yet again fumbled at the start. A fired-up Siraj hustled the top-order with good pace and seam movement. Continuing his fine form with the ball, he scalped two in his first three overs to jolt SRH. The 31-year-old Hyderabadi was exceptional. He removed danger man Travis Head with his sixth delivery. Abhishek Sharma followed his partner in the fifth over. The left-hander was out to a soft dismissal and was pouched at mid-on to give Siraj his 100th IPL wicket. His first spell read 3-0-14-2. Then, coming back in the 19th over, he trapped Aniket Verma in front and finished his spell by disturbing Simarjeet Singh’s stumps. “We want to be aggressive,’’ said skipper Cummins after losing the toss, but the GT bowlers called the shots by slicing through the top-order in eight overs. Left-hander Ishan Kishan, who scored a century in his first match for SRH, disappointed for the fourth time, holing out to fine leg off Prasidh Krishna. SRH choked as they meandered to 64-3 in 10 overs. Heinrich Klaasen compounded SRH’s woes by scoring only 27 before being castled by the crafty Sai Kishore, who is growing in stature. The Tamil Nadu left-arm spinner also had Nitish Reddy gobbled up at deep midwicket in his next over. Cummins takes SRH past 150 On Saturday, GT Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki spoke of coach Ashish Nehra’s role with their bowlers. The tall Prasidh Krishna too has benefited as he showed in his two spells. The Karnataka pacer captured his second wicket by dismissing Kamindu Mendis. Bowling hard lengths and with subtle variations, the GT bowlers also did not allow the aggressive Aniket Verma to free his arms. The SRH batter fell to Siraj. With a few lusty shots, Cummins took the home team past the 150-mark. There were only two sixes in SRH’s innings. This is a marked contrast to last year when the batters thrived on sixes. Brief scoresSRH 152-8 in 20 overs (N Reddy 31, H Klaasen 27; M Siraj 4-17, S Kishore 2-24, P Krishna 2-25) lost to GT 153-3 in 16.4 overs (S Gill 61*, W Sundar 49, S Rutherford 35*; M Shami 2-28) by 7 wkts

On a dry pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Rahul opened the batting in the absence of an unfit Faf du Plessis and was at 25 off 20 balls, before flicking a switch to hit 36 off his next 18 balls and make 77 off 51 balls.
