Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia is convinced that French star striker Kylian Mbappe will make a huge impact at the upcoming Euro (June 11-July 11) and England skipper Harry Kane could finish as the top-scorer of the tournament.

Mbappe, 22, who won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, has scored 42 goals in 47 appearances for French side PSG this season, while Kane, 27, who won the Golden Boot in Russia (six goals), has been in prolific form, netting 33 times in 49 matches for EPL club Tottenham Hotspur.

‘France have quality’

Bhutia, 44, feels both players will carry their form into the European Championship. “Mbappe will have a big impact considering the quality of players he has around him. But, individually Kane will become the highest goal-scorer for England,” said Bhutia, who is an expert panelist for Sony TV show, Football Extra.

According to Bhutia, another player to watch out for will be defending champions Portugal’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who might be playing his last international tournament.

The Ronaldo-led Portugal side are placed in Group F with former world champions Spain and Germany along with Hungary. Bhutia remarked that though this tournament will be sentimental for the Juventus striker, he will have to shoulder a bigger responsibility of helping Portugal reach the knockouts from a difficult group.

Sentimental Euro for Ron

“For Ronaldo, this Euro will be more sentimental as this might be his last tournament with Portugal. But the immediate challenge he has, more than winning the Euro, is to take his team through a very difficult group. His focus will be on how to take his team into the next round. If they can come out of the group with France and Germany, they could go all the way till the finals, but right now, it looks very difficult for them to get out of the group,” explained Bhutia, who scored 40 goals in 104 games for India.
