Though scorers are an integral part of any cricket match, their efforts hardly get noticed. However, last Monday, it was a scorers evening at the Wankhede Stadium as Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) felicitated three senior scorers and statisticians—Sudhir Vaidya, Ramesh Parab and Uday Gharat apart from nine scorers, who achieved top marks in the scoring examination since 2001.
Vaidya, Parab and Gharat were felicitated with a shawl, a citation and a purse of Rs 30,000 each while toppers of the MCA's scoring examination were presented the Anandji Dossa Trophy.

"It was one of the best organised functions in which scorers got recognition. They [MCA] also recognised the hard work done by all the scorers and felicitated them," Vaidya, who specially came from Pune for the function, told mid-day.com.
Vivek Gupte, chairman of the MCA's scorers and statistical sub committee said: "It is seldom seen that scorers, despite being integral part of the game, are never at the forefront in this otherwise glamorous game. So it is good to see scorers basking in some glory. Although this is a welcome beginning, a lot still needs to be done for scorers. But having set the ball rolling, I hope and I am sure that this trend will continue."
Speaking at the function, MCA secretary Sanjay Naik expressed surprise that such programs were never held for scorers and their prizes were pending since 2001.
