A mummified leopard was recovered from two poachers in Kanakapura who were hoping to sell the cadaver for a high price
In what seems to be a twist of several fortunes, the forest department recovered the mummified remains of a two and half year old leopard.

The pair had reportedly killed the animal and decided to preserve it by mummifying it and sell it off to a buyer who quoted a good price.

Interestingly, they had hoped that a rishi or someu00a0 religious head who would offer them their price and were waiting for the perfect buyer.

Informers however tipped off the squad to their plan early yesterday. After the raid in Kanakapura town, the two poachers and the leopard's body were brought to Aranya Bhavan in Malleshwaram for further investigations.
Chief conservator of forests B K Singh and deputy conservator of forests S Kumaraswamy, inspected the cadaver and told MiDDAY that the animal was killed more than a month ago. A case has been filed against Kitty and Venkatesh.
