RTI activist Raju Vishwakarma was furious at the senior MBMC employee, who was shot at last month by the men hired by his two subordinates, as he had cancelled the former's contract with the civic body to supply food to MBMC Covid-19 centres, Mira Bhayandar police said on Friday.

The juniors -- Yashwant Deshmukh and Shree Krishna Mohite -- had hired the contract killers through Vishwakarma. Police said Vishwakarma had a beef with the Khambit, because he had cancelled his contract with the civic body to supply food to MBMC Covid-19 centres. The contract was cancelled because Vishwakarma was supplying poor quality food, police added.

Police also found that Mohite and Deshmukh used to inform Vishwakarma about the alleged illegal works going on under the MBMC and would ask him to file complaints against any irregularities. In return, Vishwakarma received Rs 65,000 every month from the duo.
