Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital, operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has introduced a state-of-the-art automated biochemistry analyser, significantly upgrading its blood testing capabilities for patients in Mumbai's western suburbs.
The newly installed equipment can handle up to 4,500 tests daily and approximately 12 lakh annually, promising quicker and more accurate diagnoses for thousands of patients—particularly those from economically weaker sections.
The facility was officially inaugurated in the presence of the hospital’s Dean, Dr. Sudhir Medhekar, who emphasized the critical role of timely blood testing in diagnosis and treatment. “This system will greatly enhance our ability to provide high-quality healthcare services to underprivileged patients,” he said.
The analyser, funded by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and implemented by the Child Health Foundation, was launched in the presence of IOCL representatives Sanjeev Ranjan and Vijay Tawde, along with Child Health Foundation Executive Directors Jiji John and Abdul Baig. Department heads from the hospital also attended the ceremony.
According to Dr. Shivaji Mane, Head of the Biochemistry Department, the new system can conduct multiple tests simultaneously and store diagnostic data within its integrated software. “This allows doctors to make faster and more accurate assessments, improving treatment outcomes and ensuring patients receive effective care,” he noted.
Cooper Hospital currently processes around 4,500–5,000 blood samples daily. With the new equipment, it now has the capacity to exceed the current testing volume, enhancing efficiency and reducing wait times for results.
