Mumbai's test positivity rate (TPR) went further up and inched towards the 1 per cent mark on Tuesday. The city recorded a TPR of 0.93 per cent. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, the daily cases also went up as the city saw 270 fresh COVID-19 infections. Only one death due to the viral infection was reported on Tuesday. 


On August 19, the city recorded the second wave’s lowest TPR at 0.53 per cent after which it has been on the rise. On August 16 that the number of daily cases fell below 200 and the city recorded the second wave’s new infections. Mumbai’s TPR dipped below 1 per cent for the first time in the second wave on July 29.

The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 — on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5 when it was 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate has further gone down and was 1,958 days on Tuesday. 

The person who died was above 60 years of age and had comorbidities. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and a total of 279 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday.

The state’s COVID-19 cases saw a significant rise on Tuesday as more than 4,000 fresh infections were registered. As per the state health department report, 4,355 cases and 119 deaths were reported across the state. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.11 per cent as 4,240 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 49,752 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a significant rise in cases too. As per the state report, 631 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli saw 78 new cases in the MMR followed by 60 cases in Raigad. Panvel recorded 53 cases while Thane saw 28 cases. Navi Mumbai reported 43 cases and Vasai-Virar had 29 new cases on Tuesday. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered five COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday. Vasai-Virar registered two deaths, highest in the MMR. Raigad, Navi Mumbai and Thane saw one death each.
