Covid-19: Mumbai sees a dip in fresh infections again at 666

After recording a spike in fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, Mumbai reported a significant drop in the numbers and a marginal improvement in the test positivity rate on Thursday. However, the fatalities increased compared to the previous day. As per the BMC report, the city saw 666 new cases and recorded a TPR of 2.27 per cent.


After recording the lowest daily Covid-19 numbers in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in cases early last week but the numbers remained below the 1,000 mark. For the first time in the second wave the TPR dipped below 3 per cent on June 6.  


The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5. The doubling rate has significantly improved and is 734 days now.

Mumbai reported 20 Covid-19 deaths on Thursday, of which 10 patients had comorbidities, nine deaths were of those above 60 years of age and seven were patients in the 40-60 age group. 

The city’s recovery rate continues to be at 95 per cent and 741 people were discharged after full recovery on Thursday. Maharashtra saw a dip in new cases on Thursday at 9,830 and reported 236 deaths.  

The state’s case fatality rate has been on a steady rise and on Thursday it was 1.95 per cent. A total of 5,890 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 1.39 lakh active cases.  

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a dip in new cases and fatalities. The MMR reported 2,174 cases on Thursday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar saw 257 cases and Raigad 553. Thane reported 104 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili saw 91 and Navi Mumbai 121. 

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 38 Covid-19 fatalities on Thursday. While Palghar reported 14 deaths, Thane saw 15. Raigad and Panvel reported four deaths each.
