Now that the talks have begun over the fate of Std XII examinations, students of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) have started asking about their assessment. The Std X board exams were cancelled over a month back owing to the raging second Covid-19 wave, but no decision on grading them has been taken yet.

Over the past two days, the focus has completely shifted to the Std XII board examinations. State education minister Varsha Gaikwad even tweeted about the department’s recommendation to take the no-examination route for Std XII. Her office also shared that a decision will be taken soon.

However, there has been no talks about Std X students, making students and their parents concerned about their future.

“We want to know how our result is going to be calculated. At the time of the cancellation, the state education department said a specially designed way of assessment for SSC results will be announced soon. One month on, there is no news about it. The department seems to have already moved to the issues of HSC,” said Gargi Joshi, a student from Mulund.

She said her friends from non-state board schools are in a better position as their assessment pattern has been declared by the respective boards. “It has already been a tough year for students, who shifted to online schooling. Later, they were expected to appear for offline exams with no practice.

They breathed a sigh of relief after the announcement of cancellation. But, it seems that they are again left in the lurch, with no clarity on the assessment,” said Malini Kachchi, a parent from Malad.

When mid-day contacted the school education department of Maharashtra, an official requesting anonymity said, “Experts are evaluating all possible options for SSC evaluation. And there will be clarity soon.”
