A 23-year-old man lost his life while eight others sustained serious injuries when a speeding car rammed into a group of bikers in Navi Mumbai, an officer said on Friday.
The incident took place on the Hiranandani Bridge in the Kharghar locality early on Wednesday, added the official.
A group of friends from the Dharavi area of Mumbai were on their way to Lonavala on two-wheelers when they were knocked down by a speeding car.
One of the riders, identified as Manav Yellappa Kucchikorve, lost his life in the accident, while eight others from his group sustained grievous injuries. They were admitted to a hospital, the official said.
The car driver sped away after the accident, said the official from the Kharghar police station.
A case has been registered and efforts are being made to track down the car driver, he added.
BEST bus rams into stationary truck in Mumbai; six passengers, conductor and driver injured
Six people suffered injuries after a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus collided with a stationary truck parked on the left side of the road outside Vanrai Police Station in Mumbai.
The vehicle, which was en route from Dindoshi to Sewree Bus Station at 6.30 am on Friday when a private car suddenly emerged from the service road in front of it. As a result, the driver lost control, and the bus collided with the truck, damaging the front portion of the bus.
The bus driver and conducted as well as six passengers suffered injuries in the incident. The injured passengers have been identified as Ashraf Sahid Husen 66; Sitaram Gaikwad, 60; Sudhakar Rewale, 57; Bharti Mandavkar, 56; Amit Yadav, 35, and Pochiya Naresh Kanpochi, 30.
The injured have been taken to the trauma care hospital for initial treatment.
Couple among three killed in road accident in Rajasthan
Three people, including a couple, were killed while seven others suffered injuries after a car rammed into a stationary dumper in Sujangarh area of Rajasthan's Churu district, officials said.
The victims, identified as Suresh Kumar (35), his wife Usha (32), and Mahaveer (25), were en route to their home in Patodi village after visiting a temple when the accident took place on Thursday night.
Police said the bodies have been sent for postmortem, and further investigation is underway.
