Sikandar Kher on how Monica O My Darling fulfilled his long-cherished wish of sharing screen space with Rajkummar Rao
Rajkummar Rao and Sikandar Kher
The quirky plot of Monica O My Darling was reason enough for Sikandar Kher to say yes to the project. The eclectic casting then was the icing on the cake. Vasan Bala’s directorial venture helped Kher fulfil his long-standing wish of sharing screen space with Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi. “The movie has some of the finest actors that the industry currently has. You can pick any of Rajkummar’s films — be it Shaitan [2011], which is a decade old, or one of his latest offerings like Badhaai Do. He has given an exemplary performance in each of them. Huma too picks her roles wisely and makes them look real,” says the actor.

After exploring action comedy in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2018), Bala has tried his hand at neo-noir crime comedy with Netflix’s Monica O My Darling, which also stars Radhika Apte and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. Exploring a novel genre might be tricky, but Kher says his co-stars were his guiding force. “I learnt so much from Rajkummar and Huma. When you team up with good actors, it elevates the quality of your work. I have always wanted to work with them, and now that it has happened, we all can look back at some good times.”
