25 March,2025 07:40 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentJr. NTR is one of the biggest stars on the pan-India slate, having achieved remarkable success and stardom across the country. While he has delivered several mind-blowing performances, he truly gave a groundbreaking one in S. S. Rajamouli's RRR. Remarkably, the film also emerged as a box office storm, and as it completes three years, it's worth revisiting the mind-blowing performance that Jr. NTR delivered in it. Jr NTR on preparing for his role in RRR As RRR completes its glorious three years, Jr. NTR opened up about how he prepared to play such a fierce yet innocent character like Bheem. “I've never had a process or recipe that I’ve followed when it comes to acting. No actor can follow a set method, for that matter. Rajamouli, as a director, has always challenged me. This is my fourth collaboration with him. Having worked with him, I’ve realised that an actor has to be naive to understand and deliver what his director wants. In my first three collaborations with Rajamouli, I was very naïve. I think all that naivety prepared me to play Bheem in RRR. Everything I have done so far in my career has prepared me for this project,” he said. SS Rajmouli’s experience of working with JR NTR Further to this, director S. S. Rajamouli shared his experience of working with Jr. NTR and said, “With NTR, it felt like I was shooting with not one, but two tigers.” Playing the character of Komaram Bheem, a Gond tribal leader from Telangana who fought against the Nizam of Hyderabad for the liberation of Hyderabad State, Jr. NTR starred alongside Ram Charan, who portrayed Alluri Sitarama Raju, a revolutionary leader from Andhra Pradesh who waged an armed campaign against the British Raj. More about JR NTR Moreover, RRR became a breakout film for Jr. NTR, adding yet another remarkable role to his filmography. Earning Rs 223 crore worldwide on its first day, RRR recorded the highest opening-day collection for an Indian film at the time. The film also won the prestigious Oscar for the song Naatu Naatu, becoming the first and only Indian feature film to win an Academy Award. The movie also starred Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt & Ajay Devgn.

25 March,2025 04:04 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentAs soon as the highly anticipated trailer of Jaat dropped, it left audiences mighty impressed with its gripping visuals, intense action, and powerhouse performances. Among the standout moments, the sheer screen presence and star quality of Randeep Hooda has grabbed attention for his portrayal of the menacing villain, proving yet again why he is one of the most sought after actors in Indian cinema. The versatile star, Randeep Hooda shared an interesting anecdote about his role in the film. While he is a proud Jaat in real life, he was offered the role of Ranatunga, the antagonist in the film who is being described by the audiences as sinisterly good looking. A source revealed that the makers were keen on Randeep Hooda for the role of Ranatunga, and he while had initial reservations about taking up the role, the actor eventually accepted it despite knowing that he wouldn't be playing a Jaat character. "When the producers approached Randeep for the role of Ranatunga, he was intrigued by the challenge but he also had his reservations and wasn’t sure of taking that leap. But seeing the enthusiasm of the director, Gopichand Malineni during the narration of the screen and play the lead villain to Sunny Deol whom he greatly admires was the main reason that made him say yes”. About Jaat trailer The makers of Sunny Deol’s upcoming actioner 'Jaat' have finally released the trailer of the film on social media. The trailer is packed with high-octane action as Sunny and Randeep Hooda engage in a fiery face-off. The trailer gives a glimpse into the intense rivalry and power struggles that define the film. It showcases fierce action sequences, emotional moments, and the unrelenting battle between Deol and Hooda’s characters. Sunny Deol, who plays the titular role of Jaat, expressed his excitement and said, “This journey of this film had begun during Gadar 2. We all were very excited about it, we were about to start a beautiful film, and after following many directors, Gopi agreed to do the film. We met in Goa, and he said he would direct the film and had another story to narrate. He narrated to me the story of "Sorry Bol" (laughs). And with 'sorry, sorry, sorry,' he pulled me into the entire film and story, and this is how we made 'Jaat.' Talking about the producers, the 'Ghayal' actor mentioned, “Our producers, they're so sweet and humble, and I even sometimes say that our producers from the hindi film industry should learn from them. You call it Bollywood; make it Hindi cinema first. And learn how cinema is made.” Speaking about "Jaat," Deol said, “The trailer, as you all saw, is entertaining, and we all believe in making entertainers, and the audiences who came to watch they get lost in magic of cinema, and that's what cinema is about, and that's what Jaat is about.” Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the film features an ensemble cast, including Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, and Regina Cassandra in key roles. The film will release in theatres on April 10.
25 March,2025 03:09 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentThe Bollywood actress and Member of Parliament, Kangana Ranaut has reacted to the controversy surrounding comedian Kunal Kamra and his remarks on The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde. The actress interacted with the media inside the premises of the Old Parliament House, and also spoke about how once the comedian made fun of a part of her house in Mumbai getting demolished. She said, “The way he was making fun of me and somewhere, the incident that was done to me illegally, he was making fun of that. I will not connect that incident with this incident at all. The person who is a part of the government or is in power, the person who has it, his honor is everything. You are defaming him in the name of comedy. You are insulting him. You are disregarding his work. Shinde ji used to drive a rickshaw once upon a time. Today he has come so far on his own”. She then pointed her guns at the comedian, as she said, “And, who are these people? What are their own credentials? Who are these people who have not been able to do anything in life, who have not been able to do anything in life? If I can say, if they can write, then write something in literature, some kind of comedy. Does he write anything in literature? Like I say in our films also, there is some kind of comedy dialogue writing, screenwriting, abusing in the name of comedy, making fun of our texts in the name of comedy, making fun of people, making fun of mothers and sisters is not right”. The actress asked, “where is our society going? Where is this influencer going for a two-minute frame? We have to think about this”, as she also questioned the influencer culture in India. “The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has also said that we will have to take responsibility somewhere. What we are saying about whom, when there are repercussions of that”. After Kamra’s video circulated on social media, authorities visited the Habitat venue where the video was recorded, and demolished an illegal encroachment of the venue. The actress asked that the demolition of Habitat should not be connected to the demolition of a part of Mumbai house as they’re two different things. 25 March,2025 12:58 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentAmid the Kunal Kamra row gaining momentum, filmmaker Hansal Mehta recalled a similar incident he faced 25 years ago in Mumbai. The filmmaker said he was assaulted and made to publicly apologize by the 'same political party' that has now attacked Kamra for his recent comedy special posted on YouTube. Hansal Mehta, known for films like Shahid, Citylights, and the series Scam 1992, recounted a similar experience from 25 years ago when members of the political party Shiv Sena (then undivided) vandalized his office and forcefully made him apologize to an elderly woman for a single line of dialogue in his film. In a social media post on Instagram, the Shahid director wrote, "What happened with Kamra is, sadly, not new to Maharashtra. I've lived through it myself. Twenty-five years ago, loyalists of the same (then undivided) political party stormed into my office. They vandalized it, physically assaulted me, blackened my face, and forced me to apologize publicly—by falling at the feet of an elderly woman—for a single line of dialogue in my film." Mumbai Police watched in silence: Hansal Mehta He further said that as he got assaulted thousands of people watched, even Mumbai Police. "The line was harmless, almost trivial. The film had already been cleared by the Censor Board with 27 other cuts. But that didn’t matter. At the so-called 'apology' venue, at least 20 political figures arrived in full strength to oversee what can only be described as public shaming—with 10,000 onlookers and the Mumbai Police watching in silence," wrote Mehta. The filmmaker reflected on the past incident and condemned violence, intimidation, and humiliation as a response to disagreement. "That incident didn’t just bruise my body. It bruised my spirit. It blunted my filmmaking, muted my courage, and silenced parts of me that took years to reclaim. No matter how deep the disagreement, no matter how sharp the provocation—violence, intimidation, and humiliation can never be justified. We owe ourselves, and each other, better. We owe ourselves dialogue, dissent, and dignity." About Kunal Kamra incident A controversy arose after Kamra allegedly made critical remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his latest stand-up special, Naya Bharat. Following this, Shiv Sena workers vandalised the Mumbai venue where Kamra had performed, ANI reports. In response to the incident, Kamra issued a statement via his official social media handle, declaring that he would not apologise for his act. The comedian defended the entertainment venue where his show was held, asserting that it should not be held responsible for his comedic content.
