The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has posed a roadblock in the release of the critically acclaimed film 'Santosh'. Directed by Sandhya Suri, the film was UK's official entry for Oscars this year. The film sees Shahana Goswami play the role of a cop. CBFC demands extensive cuts Reportedly, the CBFC has demanded a long list of cuts to the makers before giving it a green signal for release in India. Reportedly, scenes of police brutality was not approved by the censor board. Directed by Sandhya Suri, the film stars Shahana Goswami as a driven young Hindu widow who inherits her husband's job as a police constable thanks to a government scheme. She finds herself caught up in institutional corruption even as she warms to working with rough-edged veteran detective Inspector Sharma (Sunita Rajwar) on a brutal murder case involving a teenage girl from the lower caste Dalit community, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Sandhya Suri reacts to CBFC demands After CBFC decided to stall the release of Santosh in India, Sandhya Suri in an interview expressed her disappointment and called it heartbreaking. In an interview with The Guardian, she said, “It was surprising for all of us because I didn’t feel that these issues were particularly new to Indian cinema or hadn’t been raised before by other films.” The filmmaker said that they received multiple cut suggestions spanning several pages. She said most of the cuts were related to police conduct and broader societal issues. The filmmaker said that she would fight the case in court and not make the cuts. Shahana Goswami reacts to CBFC demands Talking about the censor suggestions, Shahana Goswami told India Today, "The censor has given a list of changes they require for the film to release and we as a team are not in agreement with the cuts as they would change the film too much, and so it is in a deadlock where it probably won't release theatrically in India." "It's just sad that something that has gone through censor approval at the script level should require so many cuts and changes for it to be considered okay to release in India," Goswami added. The Sandhya Suri film also touches upon the themes of caste discrimination, police brutality, sexual violence, and Islamophobia. Also starring Sunita Rajwar alongside Shahana, the film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival earlier in 2024. The film is available on the OTT platform MUBI in India.

26 March,2025 09:38 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentFor months, there has been a see-saw about superstar Salman Khan and filmmaker Atlee's probable collaboration. Clearing the air about the status of the film, Khan has revealed that while the project was happening at one point of time, it's been pushed now. "I don't think it's happening right now. It was happening at one point of time. We tried really hard to work it out, but somehow it didn't happen. I don't know what exactly was (the reason)," he said during a group interview to promote his upcoming Eid outing, Sikandar. Khan further shared that the film couldn't materialise due to budget issues. "I believe it was the budget of the film. It's a very high budget film. So, now the film has been pushed. You generally allocate dates for two films at a time, so now I have time in hand to do one film now and then another back to back," he said. The superstar further revealed that while he is "deciding" between two films at the moment, he plans to headline Sooraj Barjatya's next after the filmmaker's collaboration with Ayushmann Khurrana, Prem Ki Shaadi. There have been reports about Khan also looking at the sequel to his 2015 blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan. "A sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan can be made, but the problem is when it will be made, Munni will be speaking," he laughed. On a serious note, he said, "It's being written right now." Khan also addressed the speculation around Tiger vs Pathaan with Shah Rukh Khan. "It's not happening right now," he said.
26 March,2025 08:38 PM IST | Mumbai | Priyanka SharmaBe it a Malegaon boy with big dreams or a Mumbai-based fitness trainer, Adarsh Gourav has a knack for inhabiting different characters with ease. His next avatar? A social media influencer. Come June, the actor will kick off the shoot of Tu Yaa Main along with co-star Shanaya Kapoor. “It was the film’s look that first caught my attention,” he says of director Bejoy Nambiar’s survival thriller that sees two social media content creators, trying to outdo each other while making a video in a Mumbai lake, unaware of a crocodile lurking in the water. Becoming a content creator has given Gourav another chance to build a character far removed from his real-life persona. “I never want to repeat myself. The joy of acting lies in disappearing so completely into a character that the audience forgets the actor behind it. For me, acting is about complete immersion—physically, emotionally, and mentally.” A big step of understanding the character is creating his look. Many days went into cracking his look in the film—read spiky hair, earrings and piercings. The actor shares, “I invest time in crafting each character’s look because appearances tell stories. The way a person walks, dresses, or carries themselves can reveal so much about them. For instance, playing a fitness trainer in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan [2023] required me to build an athletic physique. For Tu Yaa Main, I am stepping into the shoes of a small-town social media influencer; that means reshaping my physicality, altering my mannerisms and deeply understanding my character’s psyche.”
