Harjit Singh Laddi claims responsibility
Khalistan's Harjit Singh Laddi has claimed responsibility for the attack. Laddi is allegedly an operative of the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). He is also one of India’s most wanted men listed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The attacker reportedly stated that the attack was carried out in anger over remarks allegedly made by Sharma.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had last year filed a charge sheet against Laddi, and Pakistan-based chief of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), Wadhawa Singh, along four others. The chargesheet was filed with regard to their connection with the murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vikas Prabhakar alias Vikas Bagga in Punjab earlier this year. The agency had noted, "Khalistani extremists continue to use Canada as a base for the promotion, fundraising or planning of violence primarily in India."
For years now, India has been raising concerns about the operations of Khalistani terrorists in Canada. India has also complained that the country hasn't done enough to tackle the threat from the terrorists.
