Mumbai: Lucky escape for school kids, as tree falls on luxury bus

A huge tree keeled over and fell on an empty luxury bus parked near the gates of Don Bosco School, Matunga, around 9 am on Friday. There were school buses parked next to it and the stretch is usually buzzing with students getting out of them, but because of the rain, the school was shut.

Ernest Gordon Misquith, who owns the luxury bus, said the bus was parked there because it was supposed to take students for swimming lessons to the Matunga Gymkhana, but the trip was cancelled. The driver and helper, too, were standing outside the bus when the tree fell, and escaped unscathed.

The BMC was trying to lift the tree till late afternoon, yesterday. Misquith said there are several really old trees on the road and the authorities should check each one to prevent a similar mishap.
