Two days after the family of a 12-year-old made the shocking discovery that she was pregnant, the police have arrested her father's employee for rape. The 24-year-old man is a helper at the fast food stall run by the survivor's father.
As mid-day had reported yesterday, the girl is 27 weeks along, which could mean that she might not be allowed to medically terminate the pregnancy due to the danger to her and the foetus.
The accused, Shekhar (name changed), and the survivor also lived in the same neighbourhood in Kandivli West. According to Charkop police sources, they knew each other well, as he would share meals with the girl's family and also stayed over at their house sometimes.

Investigations have revealed that he raped the minor several times, promising to marry her in the future. The rape only came to light recently, when the Std VII student was taken for a medical check-up after she complained of stomach ache.
On the basis of her parents' complaint, the Charkop police have registered a rape case against the man under the IPC, along with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was arrested on Thursday evening and was yesterday produced before the Dindoshi sessions court, which remanded him to police custody.
