A sena rises on Twitter to ‘protect’ Hindutva

The new Twitter handle equates Hindus with Hindutva

A handle  that claims to stop "attacks on Hindutva from all around" made its debut on Twitter on Thursday, hogging all attention. A hashtag named after the handle, @TeamHinduUnited, was trending on top during the day.

The handle says its only aim is “to get those accounts suspended who spread hate against Hindu Religion and India” and that it is not against religion or community. As it put out a series of tweets, it had garnered over 2,800 followers by the evening.

Equating Hindus with Hindutva, it called for efforts to "organise the nationlist Hindus".

While the handle claimed to have no political affiliations, its efforts were quickly endorsed by BJP’s Kapil Mishra of “Goli Maaro” fame who said, "Good work #Team Hindu United."

After much effort for a telephonic interview, mid-day was asked to direct-message a certain Ankita Singh with handle @indiaAnkita. The user agreed to only speak from the shadow of direct messages.

On being asked how nationlist voices are being suppressed on Twitter, Ankita said, "There are some handles on Twitter who are constantly trying to mass report and suspend acc’s of nationalist/RWer supporters. If any nationalist/RWer tries to post in support of Hindutva they mass report it in irrelevant categories.”
