The Manikpur police in Vasai have booked a man for allegedly assaulting an on-duty traffic police constable over a petty issue.
A video of the incident has gone viral in which the biker is seen slapping the cop multiple times. According to the police, the incident took place on Monday.
The traffic police constable, Kalu Vitthal Munde, was posted in the Parvati Cross area. Munde had stopped a biker, who was riding along with his wife and a child and had apparently jumped a signal.
The biker, identified as Sohail Menon, first argued with Munde, claiming he had not flouted any traffic rules and then tried to escape. However, Munde stopped him and told him to take his bike to the side of the road, the police said.
Enraged by this, Menon got off the bike and suddenly started slapping Munde. Locals gathered at the spot tried to stop Menon, but he kept attacking Munde. Finally, he was overpowered and taken to Manikpur police station.
“We have registered a case under section 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) against Menon and released him after warning him,” said Anil Patil, senior inspector, Manikpur police station.
