Mumbai: 21-year-old youth's body found in open drain

A body of a 21-year-old was discovered on Friday afternoon from a 30-foot open drain at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi.

The police suspect that at the time of death, the boy was intoxicated.

A local spotted the body —identified as Mahmud Badsha Kashim Shaiyad — and informed the police, who later took him to Shatabdi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. “As per our investigation, the boy might have been under the influence when he fell in. But we can’t confirm anything until we get the post-mortem report,” said Balasaheb Jadhav, senior police inspector of the Shivaji Nagar police station.

The police registered an accidental death report. Meanwhile, another body, identified as 30-year-old Mukesh Matra, was found from a talao in Bhiwandi. The police says he drowned while swimming.
