Mohalla treats
A cloud kitchen on Chimbai Road that specialises in authentic Mughlai food is bringing popular Ramzan street-eats from Mumbai’s mohallas to your doorstep. For the last eight years, Simmering Pots has been curating a special menu for the season of fasting and prayer. “The kheema baida roti continues to be a favourite. It’s fried paratha stuffed with mince [mutton or chicken] and egg,” says Nazim Merchant, who runs the kitchen with his mum Shabnam Merchant. “Our naan sandwich, a baked bread filled with bhuna chicken mince, is also well appreciated.” Apart from that, their menu offers haleem, chicken farcha, chicken pakora chat, mutton samosas and kebabs, and lime pudina chi seekh.

For the eighth year, Mohammed Ali Road comes to Jyran, Sofitel with Chef Shadab Ahmed’s specialities that include paya yakhni shorba, khau gali murgh tikka, seekh roll, Minara masjid wali gali ke shami kabab, shahi galawat ke kebab, mutton seekh roll, roti pe bhuni boti, khumb galouti ulte tawa ka paratha, bhuna bater masala, chooza makhana, khichda, nalli nihari, raan changezi, gurda kaleji masala pav, bheja masala pav, and tawa kheema pav. Desserts include tabakh jamun, malpua rabdi, sheer korma, zafrani phirni, angoori rabdi and noorani kulfi faluda.

Impresario Handmade Restaurant’s cloud-kitchen, Lucknowee offers Awadhi cuisine that pays homage to Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last King of Awadh. The food is made from recipes passed down from his khansama, untouched across generations. For iftar, one can indulge in the authentic biryanis and tikkas such as Lucknowee mutton dum pukht biryani, mansahari platter and end on a sweet note with the shahi tukda.

A legendary iftar
Pacha caterers has a 35-year-long history to its credit and the business is now in the able hands of Shahin Pacha, who says, “Ramzan is a special time for us and our kitchen is constantly fired up. Even though you innovate, most prefer iftar staples like the bohri samosa or paya with lamba pav, mutton bohri khichda with sheermal, mutton chap kheema with gol naan, mutton chanaboti with paratha, among others.”
There’s also shorba, foil chicken drumstick, mutton raan in smoky Kashmir sauce, mutton bohri biryani, chicken seekh biryani, and zam zam biryani. For the sweet lovers, there is mango sancha ice cream along with other sweet treats as well.

This specially curated menu from ITC Hotels features traditional delicacies from their Ruhaniyat edition of Gourmet Couch, Biryani and Pulao Collection, and delectable treats from Nutmeg—The Gourmet Shop. There’s seekh gilafi dum pukht, galouti kebab, murgh handi qorma, shahi nehari, Bibi ka murgh pulao, haleem, dal bukhara and seviyon ka muzzafar. A biryani list includes Metiabruz and gosht bohri biryani. Add gourmet confections like almond and saffron, ashrafi, chocolate, dipped dates with cashew marzipan and tahini and rose halva to sweeten the deal.

Andheri-based delivery kitchen Sabir Bhai’s will be offering a special iftar box comprising everything from biryani, Russian and kandi kebabs, date, and custard. “A chef from Lucknow has come down to prepare the iftar meals,” says founder Sabir Shaikh. Besides Mohammed Ali road-kind of eats, you can order from the regular menu which has everything from malai tikka to shaami to kaleji masala. Do try their dudhi halwa.
