While most may think that all infants do is eat, burp and poop, research shows that a child’s brain develops rapidly till the age of five—more than at any other time in life. A curious and alert baby cousin piqued 14-year-old Avantika Kampani’s interest. Inputs from learning experts and child psychologists, along with those of her mentors at the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA) class helped her come up with Seekh, a box with six sets of 72 flashcards to help a child’s brain grow.

This writer tried Seekh with her children (aged six and seven and a half) and her neighbour’s tiny tots who are under the age of three. We were pleasantly surprised with how the colourful flashcards, designed by Kampani herself, made for some exciting learning time. Each of the six sections—At First Sight, Count Up, Touch and Feel, Building Blocks, Let’s Read and Link Up—help a different part of the child’s brain develop and grow, thereby enhancing their cognitive capabilities. There are cards depicting sacred geometric patterns for brain development; a set for reading as an exercise for the mind; a set for images-to-words to enhance recall; a set to introduce numbers through quantities for early learning; cards for multi-sensory learning opportunities and physical development; and cards to guide character building and develop emotional intelligence. While the children loved the pairing, counting and the touch and feel game, the section on tips to strengthen a child’s character seemed intriguing, but it requires that parents spend quality time with them while at it. Based on ancient wisdom and modern wit, Kampani’s thorough research is evident through the set and it seems as though Seekh is a small investment to fuel a child’s growth and embark them on a constant upward learning streak.
