The fifth edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender at Pune this weekend promises to pack in music, shopping, food and much more. We give you the lowdown of what’s in store at the event

The fans will be able to groove to the tunes of Fear Factory, The Ska Vengers and Dinosaur Pile-Up among others

A few days ago, when Only Much Louder (OML), a management company for indie music groups, ran a pre-sale of tickets for the Pune edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, they sold out in 42 minutes.

That probably should give you an idea of the eagerness with which music fans look forward to the festival, which has earned itself the moniker of the happiest music fest in the country.


Its fifth edition has a huge line-up of impressive artistes and music fans in Pune can look forward to performances by The Vaccines, Fear Factory, The Ska Vengers, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Monica Dogra, Amit Trivedi, Raghu Dixit Project, Bhayanak Maut and Pentagram among others.

“We have a robust line-up catering to music fans of different genres. A big part of the fest is not just the music, but also the art, the food and the visual aspect, and we take them all very seriously. It’s an amazing feeling to see the crowd walk in when the gates open at 3 pm and check out what's new this time and get familiar with their surroundings,” says Arjun S Ravi, co-founder, NH7. So what’s the coming weekend got in store for music enthusiasts? Let’s find out:

Look forward to

Monica Dogra: The dynamic Shaa’ir from electro pop-act Shaa’ir + Func will reveal her solo avatar, crooning three new songs from her yet-untitled album.

Bhayanak Maut: The popular metal band will play songs from their latest album Man.

All India Bakchod: They have cracked us up with their comedy and wit, and now, stand-up comics Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran
Khamba, Rohan Joshi and Ashish Shakya will present their first-ever live musical act in Pune.

Madboy/Mink: Comprising Imaad Shah and Saba Azad, the electric live set will debut their song Sharabi, a retro-
disco number.

The Mananiyar Classroom by Roysten Abel: This will be a visual spectacle for sure, as 40 children of Manganiyar descent get together for a music performance, in a classroom setup.

First-timers

Songhoy Blues: GarbaToure, Aliou Touré, Oumar Touré and Nathanael Dembélé comprise Songhoy Blues, a rock band from Mali. The band, which will debut in India, will perform at the Pune and Delhi editions of the festival.

The Vaccines: The English indie rockers will play their first-ever live shows in India at the Pune and Delhi editions of the festival this year. They’ve toured and performed extensively with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys and other huge global rock acts.

Amit Trivedi: The brilliant composer, whose work in films such as Dev D, Udaan and Ishaqzaade has been critically acclaimed, makes his debut on the NH7 Weekender stage.

Fear Factory: A band that has inspired countless young Indian metal acts, Fear Factory has had a long, successful career spanning eight studio albums, the most recent being 2012’s The Industrialist, with a new studio release planned for 2014 as well.
